Custom Fragrance For Air Balance System

I picked up an empty container on EBay for $35 and a selection of aromatics on Amazon for $20.

Leather + Tobacco + Sandlewood + Campfire with a hint of Lavendar is a nice, masculine scent that seems to suit the car. Heavy on Leather, a little less on the rest. I just poured it straight into the vial, and set the level on 1 to get the right intensity.

There's a lot of conjecture as to whether you will damage the system through oil based fragrances, instead of what most assume will be fine, alcolhol based fragrances such as cologne.

I'll let ya know! Since its drawing the concentrated scent from the air within the vial vs the liquid itself and then introducing it to the airflow I'm guessing it's okay. But you could cut it with an alcohol base and break down the oil.

Mike,
Would you mind sharing a link for the seller who had the empty vials? Wifey wants to blend her own. Most of the MB ones give her a headache. Best price I found so far was $80 which to too much for a jar with a plastic valve.

I just did a search on EBay and the cheapest one was $35. Not sure if the guy was a vendor or just happened to have one.

Something I noticed today. At highway speed, presumably with greater air pressure coming in, the fragrance is noticeably increased. Like flipping a switch. Also, to avoid any potential issues with oil based vs alcohol based scents, fill the vial to only 1/4 full, so the intake on the underside of the lid does not come in direct contact with the liquid.

I made a paper filter out of a small section of paper towel that completely wraps the intake as well. If there is airborne oil being draw in to the system it should show up in that filter.

Given that the entire "Air Balance System" is a $350 option, and a vial of fragrance itself is $120, my guess is the part of the system you can't see consists of a duct to and from the vial and a valve that redirects air through the duct right before it's introduced to the cabin. Shouldn't be anything to damage.

Fragrance

all 2017 e class has this awesome feature of having scent and more to switch scents and even place your own one . BUUUUUT : we we gont the car i set setting on HIGH and during whole time having a car me nor my GF ever can smell scent , not even a slight shadow of it . If we take in mind that MB spend so much for developing those scents and implemented in MB is big deal , and there a was Huge presentation about it , i went to dealership and asked them to check the system and despencer if its working.
They had my car for like 3-4 hours , returned back and said all working fine , no error codes in system , and guy said we not suppose to smell it like regular fragrance and it releases mist in "random" ((
We are not stupid and not crazy people , we never could smell it , ever .
So i went online to MB and bought different scent , drove for few days , still no scent , not even slightest .
Please can someone conform that you can smell the scent , even a little bit. On amazing there is reviews , that people say they can smell it and its great .
Thank you for attention .

I suggest you call Mercedes and tell them you are not satisfied with way dealer is handling this. Error codes sometimes don't happen because sensors can be faulty too.

It really pumps it out when exterior air flow increases. Set it on 3 and go out on the interstate. If you're still not smelling it there's a problem. The only sensor I'm aware of is in the base of the unit in the glovebox. It looks for the metal disk on the bottom of the fragrance bottle. Try removing the bottle and confirm that the system throws an error for no bottle detected.

Open the bottle itself and make sure someone didn't fill it with water

Should have a strong smell.

Had the same problem. I couldn't smell a thing, no one else for that matter even when level was set on 3 (highest). Took it to the shop and it turned out that it was a kinked hose somewhere.

You should definitly smell the scent at level 3.

same thing happens to me when driving on the highway in the summer, but with sound - wind noise from outside of the car is dramatically increased, and then when i hit recirc. the noise goes away. It's just wind noise, kind of annoying and makes the car seem less quiet than it is.

I notice a strong fragrance in my Benz as well at certain times...especially after meals which include waffles, beans, and certain dairy products.

there was a thread about this a while back, but did anyone ever figure out what that weird mildew-ish smell is when the roof is open and you are driving along? probably the grease? It's gross.

How are you all able to open the bottle? I cannot get it to open when I turn the top -- almost seems like it is locked in some way

It's really tight, and there are two clear tape strips attaching it that need to be cut through. I had to use an oil filter wrench on it.

Hi Mike,
I already bought the fragance oils and I am about to start the experiment.
Can you tell me approx how many drops your poured of each oil?
Would you pls post a pic of where you put the paper filter, I dont see where to locate it.
Is your Air Balance system working fine with the oil based fragances?

Thanks a lot

Don't put any in the jar itself. Instead, stretch a small piece of paper towel across the top of the open jar, put a couple of drops on the paper towel and replace the lid. Otherwise it's overpowering and you'll quickly grow tired of it.

S Coupe 63 AMG
Cant get Air Balance to work

Just picked up my S Coupe and tried the air balance. I fitted the cartridge in the holder and activated it through the menu. Even with blower on full, all air vents open I dont smell anything.

What is also weird is that it is possible to move the cartridge up and down just a little bit when it is in the holder and the system switched on. Shouldn't this be an airtight fit and shouldn't the cartridge be stuck while operating??

Can somebody assist with this, what could the reason be?

Thanks a lot.

It's a subtle effect. If you want to test it, take the car on the highway. At higher speed the increased air pressure makes the scent obvious.
