Ventilated Seats!!!

There is currently a placeholder button in place of the ventilated seat button. I have the premium interior package on my 2015 c400. Any way to install the cooling seats? Either at a dealer or eBay + elbow grease ?

Cheers lads!

yeesh, well there's always a way to install anything...you just need the money.

i can guarantee you will be paying at least twice as much as the interior package cost from the factory to get that feature installed, and you wouldnt even be getting all the other options the package had (faux leather dashboard, lighting effects, highly adjustable passenger seat with memory, etc)....

so yes, im sure you can do it, but no it wouldnt be worth it

+1, not worth it at all.
I have the vent seat. It only provides minor venting effect. No cooling.

seat cooling on Mercedes sucks, literally. This is the reason for which is barely noticeable. On infiniti it pushes air and it gets really cold

Agree with the comments that the seat ventilation doesn't have much effect.

I felt the same when I test drove some Cs with that option here in SoCal. It definitely wasn't up to the heat.

The feature works much better on my wife's Acura MDX.

i dunno, the seat ventilation works great for me. im a pretty heavy back sweat-er and i live in san diego. granted it's not been that hot around here lately but it's definitely a temperature where i would normally have back sweat.

and since i dress up for work, i cant tell you how many times ive thanked my non-cheap-*** for getting this option. not to say YOU are cheap for not getting the option, but normally i dont get these kinds of options.

even my friend who is a total douche skeptic about everything said it's impossible that he could feel the seat ventilation as quickly as he did. he tried it over and over again and he could immediately tell it's working

now...that's not to say it works WELL, but you can definitely feel the low pressure cool air being created at your lower back. i feel it every day when i get in my car to drive home.

but again...not worth installing it after market

It's supposed to prevent your back and butt from getting sweaty when you first get in the hot car by drawing heat away. Once the cabin has been cooled by the AC their usefulness is over.

It's preferable I think to just get a remote starter unit from MidCity Engineering and pair it with a Drone Mobile unit. Then you can remote start and pre cool/heat the car before you get in it using a Smartphone app.

Add a Chamberlain universal WiFi garage door opener and you can also use an app to open the garage before remote starting the car. Very handy in the winter.

For a $450 upcharge over the heated leather seats, seems like a pretty easy decision to just add these on regardless of whether they are a big game changer or not...

for 2015, this was part of a bigger interior package. it was not a standalone option.

Talking When more is never enough

Certainly, cooled seats are better than just seats that are merely ventilated with cabin air (initially very hot). But I have to ask those who object to the lack of the seat cooling they experienced on other cars, how long did the cooling take to become noticeable? Until it did, your cooled seats were no better than ventilated seats.

My C300 takes about two minutes for the cabin AC to come on strongly. It is in those two minutes that my seat ventilation is most valuable. In fact, I can get a 30-second jump on those two minutes of intense cabin heat. If I aim the key at the driver's door as I approach the car from the rear, depressing and holding the Unlock button on the key opens all the windows and starts the seat ventilation. It also opens the sunroof, if the car has one. I believe that this feature is standard. My 2007 W203 had it. So the seat ventilation is running even before I enter the car and start it. Then as the cabin air cools, that forced air pushes out the heat otherwise trapped in the seats. Unless the day is very hot (for New England), I usually switch off the ventilation after 5-10 minutes.

I have the leather seats, so perspiration build-up on long trips is not normally a problem. However, It has occurred, and then the seat ventilation dries it out without chilling my back.

Here's a quick fix idea....

fashion a plastic deflector to sit at the end of the existing under floor air vent at say 60 degrees..
this would push cold air up against the base of the seat..

Sucks to hear that the general consensus about the feature is it is fairly weak. Granted it is a "ventilated" seat and not a "cooled" seat feature.

What really irks me is the place holder button! Those blue led's would look so nice on the door!

So here's a crazy idea - hypothetically if I found a totaled w205 at a junkyard, could I gut the button, wiring, fans, and basically install it myself? My seat has the perforated leather. I know it would be a huge hassle but I'm just thinking out loud here

The 205 ventilation system is a lot more powerful than either of the ones in my 220 or 221 S Class. No idea why you can't have them in the C450. The base seats look exactly the same to me.

Currently trying to decide which provides more value: a HUD or ventilated seats for my C43 Coupe.

Honesty don't think either is a game changer for me, but I need to pick one and only one.

Yeah it really does seem like the better choice...just gotta pray MB is able to fill their current promise of August productions (which aligns well with my C43 build). Will email my guy tomorrow to make the update.

I can remember the days when car manufactures started to bring out cars with cloth seats. No burnt bums or frostbitten cheeks when that happened.

Do the black seats get very hot when the sun is on them?

It sounds like it uses the existing cabin air to cool. If it's already warm that isn't good. If that's the case, do you blast cold air at your feet to speed it up?
