So after two separate blow outs on the factory fitted Conti run flats I swapped all four tyres for the Michelen Pilot Super Sport non run flats based on the advice on this forum.
Contacted my dealer for a space saver to prevent being towed a third time (not to mention no tyre shop stocking the Contis) and was quoted:
AUD $1,077 for the Spare wheel, spare wheel bag, jack, spanners and pads for jack... except it's 17"
Frustrated I asked how much the AMG 19" wheels are. Answer: AUD $948. Given I have three Contis sitting in the garage I now carry my own spare.
It's still a grand but like hell I'm paying for a space saver at that price which doesn't even fit.
Cool! You can also pick up a used wheel on EBay. All MB passenger car wheels share bolt pattern and hub bore. They just vary on diameter, offset and width. Anything with a 44 ish offset and 8.5" width would work on all four corners of a base W205. That would be anything from a 2000-2014 S Class/CL Class or 2008+ C Class. Pretty sure 2015 S Class as well.
That's a shame - loosing the trunk space like that certainly isn't ideal when you spend that much on a car in Oz. What happened with the first two blow-outs on the Conti's ? .. was it impact damage or a fault with the tyres?

No major impact whatsoever. Was driving on the M1 and got a sudden tyre pressure loss warning. Pulled over and could hear air seeping out. Managed to get home, but it was a Saturday with no tyre shops open on a Sunday and had to wait until Monday at which time I needed a tow.
Final straw was last week. Got home and could hear air again seeping out. Looking to see a major hole in the sidewall. That was the final straw.
I'm certain the Contis are faulty. The tyre shop looks after my dealer and says he has 15 Conti blow outs per week.
I'll lose the boot space to know that I can get myself out of a situation where I need a tow using roadside.
Not sure they would fit well but perhaps could be used during emergency.
Only fits the rear of the Sport. Won't clear the front caliper. You need a spare from the 2010-2016 E Class Coupe or Cabriolet (C207 or A207). The size is 135/80-R17
i swapped out the runflats on my bimmer, and just keep an air compressor and tire sealant in my trunk. thats how M cars have it, and i'd figure the C63 AMG (which i don't think has runflats) would be teh same. slightly more risk if you get a full blow out, so you would have to buy some sort of tow service though.
Would like to have a spare for my C300 sport. I would then be more comfortable switching to non-runflats which I plan on doing. That spare with the cover is a nice setup, far from ideal but nice. I rarely have anything in the trunk anyway. My friend just purchased a Q50. It has runflats but retains the space for the compact spare under the trunk floor. The spare is an option. Very considerate of Nissan to keep that space.
As above, the space saver is $1077 with all of the listed items in those photos but is a 17".
The space saver wheel alone for a 19" was "around double the price" according to the parts guy.
I bought a brand new "used" spare from an e class coupe from Ebay for $75, a used tool set from a w204 for $50, and the Mercedes bag from a dealer in South Africa for $135. The 17 inch spare clears all the calipers, and is the right diameter for an AMG line w205

Just picked up a compact spare and tool set from ebay for similar cost. Looking for the storage bag, may go with this, http://www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=BMTB2. Can't find the MB version.

I was going to buy that one too, until I had a family member go to South Africa, where the MB part number was active. I called a dealer near where they were staying, checked availability and arranged payment, and they just picked it up. Initially was gonna source it through Dubai (another friend there), but South Africa was cheaper due to the plummeting currency

I searched all over to try to find the MB spare bag that you have, but no luck. Thanks for letting me know how you got yours, I was going to ask. I think that the BMW bag is very similar, I will probably go with it. I'll post a review after I receive it. Thanks.
