Vibration on tight turns
#51
So if I am making the summary right, MB is claiming this is normal as they try other vehicles and they all vibrate.
Based on the data points here, it seems that it has nothing to do with steering assist as both w/ and w/o will make it happen.
Mine vehicle does not do it nor does it equips with steering assist. It's an early build (march 2015) C300 4matic.
Thus for your question back to Mercedes, why does it happen on your car? And is it safety related?
I am concerned because I may be getting a C43 soon and I hope this issue gets resolved.

So just to follow up, I had to take a trip for work and they did not want to keep the car for a week, even though that is probably what was needed. Picked it up after one day of them having it and took it back when I returned.
Nobody (including me) has had this vibration show up in my car again since I cycled the steering assist off and on again.
Sorry, I got nothing guys!

I took the lead tech of my service dept. for a ride and replicated the issue for him. Using a parking space to do a U turn I can replicate it nearly 100% of the time. I don't know if reversing the vehicle is part of the problem but it certainly seems to cause it more often.
Like charliebear, they are recommending a new steering rack. Fortunately for me, they already received the part this morning. Unfortunately, I dont think it will resolve the problem. But I spose we have to go through the process.
Charliebear, I haven't heard from you since the one additional occurrence. Has the issue subsided or have you just learned to live with it?

i received this question in a PM so im placing this here for others that have similar questions.
I have only noticed it in comfort mode but that is likely because im primarily in comfort mode. I take a normal right turn into a perpendicular parking space. I place the car in reverse and turn the wheel hard after I exit the space and the car should end up facing the opposite direction that I started. I place the car in drive and turn the wheel to straighten out the tires. During the last step is where i notice the vibration.
Oh, and I never turn the wheel unless the car is moving. Just out of habit. Lastly, I have driver assistance on. However I have also replicated it with it off.
Hey man sorry to PM you, but this steering vibe thing is driving me nuts. When you are able to replicate it, what are you doing?
3 Point turns?
Backing out of a spot in a particular direction?
I am sure this is a problem with our car, I just cannot show replicate it anymore.

Hey Guys, sorry but I been busy.
OK, so I noticed the vibrations more often after I got the car back. So the steering rack was not the fix. After 2 weeks, I finally had time to go back to the dealership and let the technician ride with me while I replicate the noise. I went around a tight to semi tight circular turn and easily replicated the slippage/vibration when coming out of the turn.
Car is in the shop once again and I got a new fully loaded 2017 Eclass e400 loaner. Wow. I might want to trade in!
We'll see what they say and do.

I experience the same vibration but I've grown to accept the car for what it is. The steering wheel vibration IMO doesn't affect the performance in any way. I also experience it everytime I back out of my indoor parking spot but like I said, it doesnt affect performance in any way shape or form

Performance is the same but I'm thinking more down the road if it causes deterioration whatever part is causing it or collateral damage to other parts.
I ain't paying a new 4matic after 50k miles or 4 years after warranty esp. when this happens at 3k miles. Unsettling.
No one really knows at this point since it's new model and a new odd noise at least for me since this is my first C class and first 4matic. Owned a w212.
I guess I'll be the ginny pig, and keep you guys updated.

Same here. I just want to pin down what the issue is before I accept it. If it turns out to be a symptom of a serious issue I want it squared away sooner than later. If it just turns out to be a weird quark, i'll get over it.

After replacing the steering rack the problem still existed (as was expected). The service dept is working with big MB to find a fix now. I just got my exhaust in the mail and I have nothing to put it on =( I miss my car.

Thanks for the update. I think may of us are waiting to see if there is a reasonable fix before we go in. Hopefully they get something figured out and you get it back soon.

I got my car back today. They replaced steering rack and that did not fix the issue. The manager told me they even recreated the issue while the car was on the lift which is interesting. They were also able to recreate it in 3 other c450s. They made it clear that it is an issue and they are working to resolve it.
Until they come up with a fix they're allowing me to drive the car which makes me happy. I know what I won't be buying any time soon. Its a Gle350.

Is it possible its the run flat MOE tires? I've had it happen maybe once when steering wheel is firmly cocked to one side. It seems to me the tires are causing the vibration. I have the Conti run flats 18s. Does anyone have this problem after moving to a non run flat like Michelin super sport?

So I went to a parking lot after picking up my Starbucks coffee as all proper mercedes benz drivers should be doing. I tested out after the car has about 220 miles. Cocked the wheel gave it some gas. No vibration but after maybe 30 secs I started to feel the vibration and also what sounded like rubbing. Or something touching something it should not be. Im no car expert.

I have the same issue and also responded on the similar thread on the grinding noise. I went to the dealer and they told me it was an issue with the shield underneath the car? Anyways, they made some adjustments to it but that didn't solve the problem.
