Locking the car after getting out

is there a way for the car to lock itself when i walk away , this is the one thing that completely makes no sense to me . may be I'm missing something as i used to manually pull the brake until i read on here that all i have to do is press the gas.

so now the most annoying thing is having to remember to lock the car ! one time i left the back window completely open with the car parked on the street , it just didn't give any clues that my window is open

I believe the key that you used to start the car has a lock button you can press...

In all seriousness, the car can't possibly know when you want the doors locked. It can only sense when the key is near it or not in order to allow keyless entry, if you had that option ticked on your order. If you do have keyless entry, you can touch the rectangular indention on any door handle to lock the car without using your key.

But if you don't have keyless entry, make sure to use your key, which you most likely already have in your hand when you turned your car off because keyless go (start/stop button) cannot exist without keyless entry.

I am confused? You are made the car didn't tell you the window was left open?
🤔

I get the locking part as when I walk away from my wives Nissan with the keys it locks the car after a certain period of time.... But I don't know many cars that will do you windows up!

Brilliant post of the day for me... It makes no sense to the OP that a car can't let you know a window is open or lock doors automatically.. How does it know when you want it to do this?

I have keyless entry which works great and not so great since there is lag when I put my hand on the handle but that I can live with.

I just feel like it's a pain having to press the lock button ! I'm slowly getting used to it but I'm not thrilled about it, the car needs to be intelligent enough to understand I walked away.i like to have the key in the pocket and not touch it ,entry and starting the car is fun that part is a joy .

i mean like a signal of some sort, kind like when you try to move a car with a door unlocked . this happened because I never lower my car windows, that night I did for some reason so naturally it didn't occur to me I had lowered the back window.

When it senses that the key is no longer in proximity it would be nice if it closes the car most cars have been doing this for a while now .I would love to have less nuisances in my life and yes that includes having to lock my car after I walk out.

it would have been even better if I didn't need a key but only my iPhone I think Volvo is working on that idea

as far as I know if you have keyless entry the doors will lock automatically after a certain period of time when the key is not detected in proximity. Believe I read that in manual though haven't officially tested it.

The fact that the memory seats don't adjust to the key used to unlock the car or that you have to hold the memory button until the seat is in position, is the most annoying part of keyless go.

If you unlock the car and don't open the door in about 40 seconds, the car will automatically lock again.

Just touch the face of the door handle after you close it and walk away.. it locks the car.. presuming you have full keyless go..

If this is too hard then the issue may not be with the car

I'll ignore the window thing, but I do have a car that locks when you walk away with the Fob (a user setting so you can turn that feature off if you don't like it). I find it very convenient and it works great. Since I'm used to it, I do have a fear of walking away from the W205 and forgetting to touch the handle, but that is my own fault.

I do wish it would have the automatic lock feature, but I'll live just fine without it.

And i definitely agree BenzC400. Not having Memory automatically adjust with the Fob is poor implementation, although that's the way MB does it, so no surprise. Just weak compared to others that do it that way....

The Mercedes.me app will notify you that your car is unlocked. It will even tell you if a door or a window is open.

My Dad's Citroen C5 2002 year model had an option to close all windows when locking the car. Not an aftermarket option though

It notifies you? Mine doesn't but I can see it on the app if I check it.

I couldn't trust any car to have locked and be secure if I didn't make that action. As for Windows going up on their own I could see that being a safety issue.

Boy we sure did get spoiled. I had a '79 Toyota. Manual door locks, manual windows, carburetor, 90 HP, and the big deal on the car is that the radio was AM and FM.

It got 25 MPG on a good day and if I tried to go 75 the rear end shook

Is it that hard to either:
1. Press the lock button on your key fob, or
2. Press the lock sensor on any of the door handles if you've Keyless-go with Hands-Free access?

No, it's not hard. But it's also not hard to take a key out of my pocket and put it in the ignition and twist it 90 degrees, but I still prefer keyless push button start. The auto locking in my other vehicle works great, and is convenient. It is my preferred method, and whish other cars had it, but obviously since I purchased a W205, it's not a show-stopper for me (and probably would never have mentioned it if it wasn't for this thread). Oh, and within the last few years I also bought a couple of vehicles where I actually have to use a metal key in the ignition, but I would still rather not.
