Is it a total junker like the CLA is, or is it AWD with legitimate power and a quality transmission?

I would pass because it's a FWD layout even with AWD. Weight distribution is going to be off compared to RWD based Mercedes cars. Additionally, CLA is very much the cheap car in the lineup. I would sooner get a CPO C300 than a CLA. It's not worth the buy in and eventual maintenance costs to drive a CLA.

 

See how it drives and handles. The C43/C450 is close to the same price point so you should definitely test drive one of those too.
