Send voice message?

I know it's possible to display incoming text messages on the Comand screen. That works fine in our car. However, to me it would make sense that the Comand system would convert those text to voice messages. I don't believe the car has that ability, but just wonder. Also, I don't think the system can convert driver voice messages to text? That might be a useful capability I'd think.

I rarely use text, even when not in the car. However, I often have "great ideas" <g> when I am driving and would like to be able to send a voice-to-text message to myself.

i tried resetting bluetooth, disabling/enabling "show notifications" etc etc etc.

i used to own a cell phone shop so i know my way around phones, gadgets etc. but i just cannot make the command screen display text messages.........what a bummer >.<

My COMAND system is able to convert email to speech. Used that many times. I presume the same is possible for text messages. It's both in the same phone menu. I never tested it though.

I'll have to fiddle around with it more. This is a new car for us so we're just now getting used to it. Thanks for the reply.

It's not you. Apple doesn't allow text to screen over Bluetooth.

When COMAND is capable of displaying the message then it also can convert it to speech. It's the car that is doing the conversion and not the phone.
I checked the manual and it is also possible to speak text messages. When the message is on screen just press the controller and you find the option listed.

Great, but are you talking about your experience with an iPhone?

You can also use voice commands for messages if you have Linguatronic (.e.g. "Read Out Message", "Read out new messages", "Reply", "Forward message", "Send message"). I don't think you can dictate a message however.

As others have says it works. I have an iPhone7. It will display and read messages.

I believe once paired you have to tell it to download new messages in order for both to work.

My experience is not with an iPhone. If an iPhone does not allow COMAND to read the message from the phone then it also cannot speak it.
But when it is on screen of COMAND then it can convert it to speech. No matter what phone is connected.

I was able to get my iphone 5s Text messages to appear with no issue. I just had to activate the option, which I forgot how to do, but was simple to do.

I lied.

I bought an iPhone7 that arrived on the first day of delivery. Been overseas or a few weeks. Since repairing the phone it won't download messages anymore.

Works with my work iPhone6 but not the 7 so it's not a software issue.

My iPhone 6 and now my iPhone 7 both are able to display incoming texts on the COMAND screen and read them aloud. I had to reboot the phone after setting "show notifications" in the Bluetooth settings. Neither can send messages from COMAND. I wish MB would provide a software update to allow Siri hands free in 2015 models. FORD added Siri hands free with a simple software patch.

try setting your iPhone to reply to the "hey siri" command. In our 2011 GLK350, when our iPhone 7 is paired via Bluetooth, the "hey Siri" command works - we say "hey Siri", then the radio mutes and Siri operates via Bluetooth seamlessly. No need for the car to have it "integrated" the way my 2016 C300 has it set with the COMAND voice button
