C350e new engine?

I have been advised that the delivery of my C350e has been moved from November to February due to a new style engine being fitted to later cars and there is a backlog.

I pressed the dealer for more information, but, none was given.
Is this for real, or, am I just being conned?

Is it the 4 pot petrol in these? Could be wrist pin issue?

If I'm not mistaken the wrist pin connects the piston to the rod. It was out of tolerance in some builds and allowed the piston to have excessive "play", which then allowed the piston to bang around in the cylinder, causing a racket and eventually damaging the piston and the cylinder wall. The repair involves tearing the engine down to the block and rebuilding it. The condition is limited to a certain range of T4 engines built in 2015.

Design or manufacturing defect?

Finally, someone who might know whether the wrist pin problem is a manufacturing defect or a design problem! If it is a manufacturing defect, which engine manufacturing plants did it affect (and maybe when). If it is a design problem, was its effect world-wide? I saw a comment that said engines made in Germany were also affected, but the commenter did not say how he knew or even whether it was a manufacturing defect or a design problem.
