I have been noticing that there are some debadged MB cars ( also BMW) driving around in Portland OR. Anyone know the reason they are debadged? Can we even buy MB cars debadged in USA?
I understand lots of MB ans BMW cars are debadged in Europe not so much in USA
There is an option to have the badges deleted when you first purchase the car. A lot of people simply like the debadged look, cleaner. Like you said, it is a bit more popular/common in Europe.
Debadged the C450 from the rear with dental floss. Neither me nor my wife liked how asymmetric it was with a badge on the left side only. I left the little AMG "dimples" on the front fenders.

Hmmm......good point, as while I like the C450 only look due it's uniqueness (is that a word?), might do the same on mine one day. And leave the mini AMGs the side, of course.
But, hopefully I get leveled out one day with a ECU tune and RENNtech badge on right....and preferably a C45 - with their blessing - on the left. What Merc SHOULD have badged the 43s, in my traditional MB-to-AMG-to-RENNtech badging preference.

My wife is German, and we visit her family often. In Germany, about 80% of cars of all makes, both expensive and inexpensive, are debadged. It seems to be just a custom. Everybody does it because everybody has always done it.

Did you heat up the badges as part of the process? If so, what did you use for that? And was any residue left on the paint that you couldn't get rid of?
I would love to debadge both for the cleaner look and to eliminate the one part of the car that keeps snagging my towels...
The dealer did mine. I don't know the process they used to remove the glue, but it was effective. No trace was left. My car was brand new and just delivered. I would be concerned about the letters being visible if the car had be in use for a year or so and the paint had faded even slightly.
Good point about fading. Question about the pic in your post: it doesn't look like that debadging was entirely successful; what am I missing here?
The pic was after they removed the letters and before the cleaned up the glue. What you see is the remaining glue and/or backing. They removed that the next day before delivery. It was perfect. When they told me the car was in and would be ready the next day, I couldn't wait to see it. I took the picture at night before they had a chance to finish the job. Picked it up the next afternoon. Post # 5 above is the finished product a few days later.

I didn't need a heat gun. I just parked the car in the driveway on a warm day and worked dental floss under the badge adhesive. Some of the adhesive was left behind. I removed is with bug and tar remover and a soft sponge. Took a bit of elbow grease to get all the residue off.
I've de-badged 10 year old cars and there is no trace. It's really no big deal and thousands upon thousands have been doing this for decades.
Goo-gone is the adhesive remover most use.
De-badging mine tomorrow. Gonna leave the AMG fender badges on for now. Might remove them later on but not sure yet. Might remove them, put a black AMG badge on the back and ignore all the haters haha

I debadged mine also for the symmetic look. Mine is a rwd C300 so only the had lettering on the left side of the trunk lid. I really should get a picture. Its actually the first car I can remember debadging.
I remember I rebadged my 97 M3 because the previous owner had taken off the three and just left the M. I thought that looked stupid.

Additional note: I used "Goof-off" as I had a bottle laying around work. All other times i've used "Goo-Gone" and have liked it better as I think it works better and it's a citrus base as well so I feel like it has less potential to hurt the clear coat. But after testing a spot on a door jam and seeing no deterioration, I felt confident and moved forward. In the end, looks like both work well

Some people do not want others to know that they have a C class because they are embarrassed that they could not afford a C or S. That is why they de-badge. That must be a car guy thing to make there car look more expensive. It is a shame to be embarrassed especially when it is a Mercedes Benz. But then I am not a Car guy as I have been told.

Actually the reason is exactly opposite. People debadge to draw LESS attention to the car. People often debadge their AMG cars or S classes too.
The only people who are "embarrassed" at what they bought are those who have a C300 and add C63 AMG to it, or a C250 coupe I saw that had E350 badges on it.

my 450 certainly get mistaken for a 300 more often then it is appreciated for a 450. that is a fact.
