Does anyone know the screen resolution for the 2015 upgraded multimedia system with the large screen. I have been downgrading my videos to 720p because I thought that was about the resolution of the screen. If it is actually higher, I will not downgrade them.

 

If you want smaller file sizes go for 720p as at this screen size that is more than enough. The codec will decode to the correct screen resolution if higher in any event.

 

The codec can downsample a higher res file to a lower res screen but even if it's capable of upsampling it can't really replace data that isn't there to begin with. I'd try a 1080 file and see if you notice any difference vs 720. I know the COMAND screen in the 221 (07-14) was 800. Wouldn't surprise me if the 205 is higher.

 

Down-sample doesn't make sense. You have a larger file and use up computer cycles. If I knew the actual resolution, I could match my videos to that. I don't know why they don't publish these specs. They probably do, but I don't know where. 720p looks OK, but 1080p would be better.

Audio 20 : 7" TFT display has 800 x 480 pixels - This gives us a PPI of 133,28
COMAND : 8.4" screen has 960 x 540 pixels - This gives us a PPI of 131,13

 

I'd be astounded if on such a tiny screen you could tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. As for using up computer cycles what else is it doing? It's not like it will slow down MS Excel or an FPS.

 

I can easily tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on my cellphone, and that is 5.5"(actually it is 1440x2560). No, I am not using Excel, but the GUI is always running. Scroll times, loading times for media, etc. could be slowed down.

 

From my experience only up to 720p is supported.

 

no, it's a hardware codec. This is a bizarre thread. I'm sure you'll do whatever suits you best.

Just I make an upgrade to my c300h 2015 with the large 8.4" screen and I want to let every one know is not easy to do this upgrade but not impossible!Step 1, need to replaced and coding online on your vin nr the new ntg unit specific for that screen (8.4" one) because the old unit is set up with different resolution ,step 2,new rear camera for the cars have aready fitted by factory a camera plus again online coding for new camera,step 3 you need to install new software for satnav on the internal hdd what is fitted on the new ntg main unit(new unit is not anymore able to use the sd card with the maps)and step 4,need to coding online aswell the DAB module to the new ntg unit because after replacing the new unit the DAB radio is gone stop work until you coding and make compatible with the new ntg unit...Step 5 wich i find very stresfull ,for ntg unit the software is to big be able to coding online and install online and you need to order by Mercedes dealer 2 DVD (one with the ntg software and one with the regio maps, Make sure is from Europe or the region where you live )and make sure they will send out compatible with your vin nr otherwise is not gone work(me personal I order the software direct from Germany because in UK is was to expensive).My recommendation if you don't have a Star wich you can coding online by self or a friend, and save some money ,is possible to spend more money buying maps software and coding online then the all.cost for the parts need to exchange to make it work.If is anyone interested about any parts nr or different questions I'm happy to help!Thank you for attention!

I just replaced the 7 "screen of my 2018 GLC 250D 4 matic X253 with NTGS1 system, with a 8.4" one but it doesn't work, sometimes it turns on sometimes not, but the image is still 7 "in size as first and all moved to the left, can you help me in any way? thanks for what you can do for me.

 

hi, what parts did you need? How long was the process? Like most I thought swapping the screen over will work but hasn't. My car is a 2016 glc with audio 20 ntg 5

 

Where can I get these DVDs? I've just done the same upgrade.
