So I took my C450 in for service, one of the things that needed to be looked at was a speedometer that gets 'caught' when slowing down.
They initially bricked the cluster and subsequently a newer version of the software was received from MB and applied. After this new update, a new item appeared in the bottom of the menu - 'AMG'. Looks cool and all, but none of the boost gauge and G sensor works. Also, my drive mode selector is now reverse (pushing up on the lever moves the item down, vice versa).
Not sure if this software was from the C63 or the updated C43 ? Does anyone have this update and is it supposed to work ?? The rest works fine as it did before

What do you mean? Are you unaware of how turbos work?
yes, i am a turbo newb how does it work? i know from a high level its just pushing air into the engine thats about it. Why wouldnt the gauge cluster from OP work since the C43 and c450 are "the same" ?

My point was that the boost gauge exists simply because the car has turbos lol. As for why it doesn't work for OP, your guess is as good as mine. The reason could be simple or complex, we can only speculate.
Looks like the new cluster from the C43..so do you like it? Sucks that the boost gauge doesnt work
I mean, other than a small annoyance that the dyanmic drive modes are in reverse order, everything else works the same. The new (semi-functional) AMG menu item looks cool, but doesn't really do much lol
You have to have a signal transmitted (however MB chooses to do this on its current cars equipped with a functional boost gauge) from the Intake manifold to the instrument cluster. If the car wasn't originally configured to do this, it will most likely take more than a single instrument cluster update. I bet they can get it working, it just looks as though they only gave you half of the update. At the end of the day, the ECU knows what boost the motor is at, it's up to the software to convey that through the cluster.
And yes, the C450 and C43 are basically the same car. But there are slight differences just as there are slight upgrades and improvements to models of every car, every year.

Do you happen to have the firmware or update number for it? I recently took mine in for service. They said there was an update, but when I got my car back, the gauge cluster screen was still the same

I believe you can see the boost on the C450 on the vehicle settings/performance settings in the command stack
I'm taking my car to the dealer this week. Can someone tell me the number for the cluster update?
I would like to have this update on my C450 as well. I don't care about the boost gauage at all, I'd want it just to have the gear displayed like my 2015 C300 did....heck I'd even PAY for the update!
Yep, my dealer said that Mercedes will not let them do a voluntary software update. He said there is obviously an update available (with the AMG menu, etc), but they can only do the update if there is an issue that calls for doing the update. Otherwise, they won't let techs spend their time updating the software. Perhaps you could pay regular labor rate to have them do it. Software updates typically take many hours. I'm not sure if that requires active involvement from techs so you would have to pay for like 8 hours of labor or if there is a lot of "downtime" once it's connected and updating and you would only have to pay for 2-3 hours of labor.
I get it...Mercedes wants to limited the prestige of the "AMG" moniker on the C450, and reserve it only for the C43 and above. God forbid should they anger the AMG owners of the world.
This whole thing is rather silly if you ask me since Mercedes themselves refer to the C450 as "C450 AMG", C450 owners are welcomed members on the official AMG web site, and the C450 sports two AMG badges on the front fenders.
Not to be a Tesla fanboy but wow this idea that software updates require multiple technicians spending 8+ hours on a single car is archaic. Tesla provides OTA (Over The Air) updates that ADD features to their cars, I hope the rest of the automakers get with the times and stop this nonsense.
Update:
Checking with the engineer this morning to see if they can acquire this specific software from Mercedes. He is concerned that it may need to be verified with the VIN from a different car. Is this cluster software for the c43 or intended as an update for the c450?
Verdict:
dealer is unable to load those specific updates. Those codes are not available and must be issued by Mercedes. My guy thinks they are European software updates. Mwop mwop.
Now I'll never know how much boost I make.

The factory boost "gauge" in the cluster wouldn't tell you how much you're making either. It doesn't quantify it with any sort of number. Just gives you a little bar graph that moves; complete novelty for that 'cool factor'.
You want to know what boost the car is making, you'll need to install an aftermarket gauge. I've been slacking on getting mine in. But I'm going to give myself a deadline of the end of the month to get it done as of right .....meow!
