How to Get the Inside of Windshield Clean

I have been struggling with a streaky windshield for months--on the inside of the glass. I don't know how the glass got that way in the first place. No one has ever smoked in the car, and I have never touched the inside glass to make it hazy. The windows are fine.

I have tried Windex, then a specialty glass cleaner (no ammonia), and just plain water. Cloths I've tried have been terry cloth and paper towels. But there are streaks and haze no matter what. If I run my finger down the inside glass, it leaves a track in the haze. If I wipe it, I get streaks. I would really appreciate it if you could give me your tips for making the inside glass clear and streak free.

I've been using Aquapel Aerosol Glass Windshield Cleaner in my cars for years. It leaves the least amount of streaks from the products I have tested. My wife ran out of Windex a few months ago and tried my Aquapel and now won't go back.

Not to rain on anyone's parade. As we all have different techniques.
I personally think newspaper is old school outdated and inaffective. Newspaper is printed with ink when newspaper gets wet the ink gets transferred off the paper and onto your windshield. Bad. My thoughts Use a good quality glass cleaner designed for cars and a waffle knit microfiber cloth. Spray product directly onto the cloth (not the windshield) sit in passenger seat ( best place to reach everywhere on the windshield, trust me on this) Wipe it all nice and good. once complete flip microfiber to dry side and wipe dry and streak free. Not good enough? Repeat. New cars breathe a lot which causes the haze up on the windows and what you are most likely seeing.
Really bad culprits are rental cars. I don't think they ever ever clean the inside of the windshield. More than 1/2 the time I can still see the suction cup marks from the original build.
Hope this helps. GL!

Newspaper all the way. Never had an issue with the ink transferring at all. Always a perfect streak-less clean on glass and mirrors.

It leaves an oily film from the leathers and plastics of the interior, "new car smell" type stuff. It is especially evident if you leave your car outside under the sun.

Leathers and plastics? I'm talking about the glass. Why would you ever rub newspaper on your leather?

Try Invisible Glass. A non=ammonia product that does a great job and is inexpensive. I do use it with newspaper and find that I do have to go over the glass twice with the product to do a good job.

He was talking about the sources of the glass haze ... leather and plastic in the car.

Leather and plastics off gas a residue that coats the inside of the glass. Newspaper is the old school way to clean glass.

OK I get what you meant now.

But as for the other part: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Old school or not, it works.

I just use a dry microfiber towel by itself to remove the haze. Works great.

Oh I agree it works. "Old school" wasn't used as a slam.

oops. my brain was obviously not working in the right language. happens once in awhile when you have to juggle two languages at work.

I recommend stoners glass cleaner with a nice low pile non-linting or perhaps old towel. The rougher the better.

I have used newspaper way back in the day with my grand pappy. Now I prefer the best or nothing and for me I get the best results using a waffle knit microfiber as my preferred cloth of choice. Other reason (and probably the real reason) is I get my news from the World Wide Web vs getting a daily newspaper delivered along with glass bottles of milk. So I wouldn't be able to partake in the old school way any way.

I also don't use turtle wax paste wax or armor all on my dash. Nor do I dry my car with a chamois or cotton diaper either.
Kinda funny we get the latest in gizmos & gadgets but won't upgrade to cleaning windows with a microfiber cloth over newspaper.

But as I said- to each their own. You got a technique that works for you, stick with it.

Show me one measurable and proven downside to using newspaper. If that outweighs purchasing/cleaning microfiber cloths, then I swear to god, I'll come to your house with a roll of newspaper so you can slap me with it and I'll use a microfiber cloth to hang myself.

I can't believe we're having this conversation. You "waffle knit microfiber cloth" people are like religious people. Just can't stand that people don't do what you do. I'm not trying to make you use newspaper, so why do you guys have such a hard on for this micro waffle cloth crap?

Oh and FYI, I don't get a newspaper delivered either since I'm pretty sure no one has in the last decade (way to sound like an extra huge douche on that one btw), but my mailman loves to stuff newspaper adds in my mailbox all day long. So my final thought for you: Think outside of the box.

Same here. I keep a microfiber towel in the glove compartment and if the windshield get hazy, I take it out and wipe it.

I find that the windshield will haze up whenever I turn off the air circulation and have been in the car for a long time. Maybe it's from the breathing??? But why would the windshield haze up and not the side/rear?

Because there is a giant vent below the windshield that pukes semi-filtered hot air directly onto it.

I was walking into a Menards hardware store one day a few years ago and they had this cheapie looking thing for about two dollars that basically is a small pad lined with microfiber on an articulating head and a long handle and that thing is washable, and it very easily let me clean the windshield whenever I want without breaking my wrist or contorting my body. it works dry you don't need any cleaners
