2015 W205 SD Card Navigation Sirius Traffic

Hi All,

Just picked up a certified Pre-Owned C300 4MATIC (W205) and so far i'm loving it. The only item that was missing was the Navigation SD Card which they quoted $625 therefore I bought it online and received it for a third of the price. My issue now is the sirius XM traffic component which doesn't work and states for me to call Sirius customer services which I did who then told me to call Mercedes to get the component enabled. So essentially i'll have to wait till Monday to speak to Mercedes Customer service. Does anyone have any experience with this? At present the navigation works although without the Sirius Traffic component.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Aaron.

------
Got an update from a local dealer who told me I need to go back to my original dealer who should be enable to activate the service.
------
Raised this with MB Customer Assistance who spoke to one of their technicians who's informed me the 2015 models do not have the traffic capability enabled only the 2016+ models. Oh well lessons learned, using Waze from now on!!

I don't know why your dealer told you that the 2015 models don't have Sirius traffic. I have the exact same car as you and had traffic since day one. He needs to either update your firmware. My 2012 e class has traffic, it's nothing special it just uses radio frequency to update traffic.

Go in person again and tell them. I don't know why they would lie to you, sit in one of there Certified 2015 c class and you will see traffic since they get the trial when the certify a car.

Hi all, thanks for your response. Sirius has repeatedly told me that my car isn't capable of Traffic therefore I cannot subscribe the Traffic service. I think I read in the instructions on the SD Card that it comes with a 6 months free subscription, I'm probably going to have drive up north to the dealer I bought it from and get them to deal with it.

Do you know if this is for USA only or Canada as well?

I only had a 3 month trial.

Noob question, why do you need a traffic SD card? I was able to get real-time traffic data without an SD card as my Sirius enabled. Do you mean you can use Sirius without a subscription if you have a SD card?

@JBMCL Not sure, all cars in the US according to my dealer and this applies to the W205 C-Class Model C300 come with 355 Pre-wiring for Navigation which in order to have a fully working navigation system you need to buy an SD Card which enables the Garmin Pilot navigation functionality in the car. The Traffic component is built into COMAND but needs to be activated by SiriusXM. In my case Sirius only see Satellite Radio ability and nothing else that's why I need to go back to the dealership ... I hope this helps

Sirius Traffic

I have a 2015 with the SD navigation (no Command). You can definitely get traffic but it is an extra charge from Sirius.

The free subscription is only for people with Command. I spent a bunch of time on the phone with both Sirius and MBUSA arguing to try to get the free traffic as it was not clear on any documentation that it was for Command only. In the end, they would not give it for free and I had to pay for it.

I cancelled the Sirius traffic after about a year as the data is nowhere close to being as good as Google on my phone. It only shows major freeways and is definitely not updated as often or as accurately as Google.

@chuckieboy, thanks for your feedback. I've attempted to enable Sirius traffic but Sirius have stated that the car isn't capable of Sirius traffic which frustrates the hell out of me. Will take the car to the dealer soon as I get chance.

Sirius told me same thing on the phone. I escalated to 2nd level tech support and they were like "oh yea, I guess your car can do traffic". I had to give them the Radio ID that the Navigation system displays and then they were able to activate Sirius traffic. Took like 30 minutes on the phone and was very aggravating.

I believe you need an active Sirius/XM subscription to display the traffic info using the Garmin navi system.

I have a 2015 C300 with the Garmin Navi (not Command). Car also came with either three or six months free of Sirius/XM (can't remember which). The Garmin picked up the Sirius traffic & displayed the info on the map. When my free Sirius subscription ended, so did the traffic info on the map. Occasionally Sirius will re-enable my subscription for free for a few days, usually around a holiday, & voila the traffic info is back on the map.

Hi All, sorry for the delay, i've tried again with Sirius and failed, they said the dealer needs to update COMAND... I'm going to try escalating this up the ranks of Sirius XM.

Folks, I've finally succeeded in getting Traffic to be displayed on my Garmin Pilot Navigation on my C300. Throughout the ranks of Sirius I got the same old story, your Car is only enabled for Radio blah blah, however after speaking to 'Advanced Tech Support' and refusing to accept the same excuse I asked to speak to a supervisor whom understood exactly the problem then proceeded to 'Override the system' and Add Traffic and within minutes my GPS went from No Service to Service! Booom.. Gosh I can't believe how tedious it was dealing with Sirius but in the end it worked, thanks for everyone's advice.
