No standard touchpad in 2017?!

Got a 2017 C300 as a loaner, and it didnt have a touchpad, just the rotary knob. So now it's an option instead of standard? MB is cheaping out...

That, or nobody uses the touchpad for anything other than a palm rest.

I find it gets in the way of using the wheel, there is no need for it. I wish they made the main screen touch.

I always thought they are standard, at least here in Canada. I'm glad they aren't using touch screens though, the smudges drive me crazy. Hell, the smudges on my phone drives me crazy.

The loaner you got probably doesn't have the 8.4 inch navigation system.

I never use the touchpad. Don't really care for it. And I'm so glad that the screen isn't touch. I hate touch screens. Not only does it leave them all smudgy, but it's really inconvenience to reach it. The dial is in a perfectly comfortable and logistical location. I really wish that you could disable to touchpad on the "mouse". Sometimes I change the radio station without meaning to

The touchpad is primarily for Asian language markets. Not difficult to understand when you comprehend the number and complexity of characters used.

I'm going to cover my touch pad with some leather look vinyl. It sucks anyway. Also, it is miserably hot in the summer months.

I've burned my hand a couple of times on the touchpad after the car's been sitting all day in the sun.

They are redesigning the touchpad anyway:

I wouldn't really call that a "redesign". That's more of an all out change. Where did the wheel go? I would hate this.

Eff that noise. Man needs a wheel to spin. Touch pads with haptic feedback do not compare to a wheels with clicks. I do like the new palm rest though. Very classy. My mom's old S class had the palm rest with the leather cover that lifted to reveal the phone dialer...LOVED THAT!

It appears the touchpad controller is optional for 2017. You must get Premium Package #3 or #4 to get it. Doesn't bother me much since I rarely use it & instead use the wheel. If anything, it changes my radio stations accidentally when my arm brushes against it.

you can but its very awkward. you hold the entire dial to the left/right as it rewinds/FF. touchpad is necessary IMO

The wheel is still there - just not the touchpad unless you get the Premium 3 or 4 package. I'm not sure what the pictures above are from - either a non US vehicle or a future redesign?

anyone here try the handwritting recognition on the touchpad? i almost wanted to rip out the touchpad and hit it with a hammer until it dis-integrates.

holy ***** was it implemented sooooooo poorly. also it's a road hazzard to use this while driving.

i use the rotary knob mainly. the only time i use the touchpad is for the middle button, which lets me skip songs.

Unreal isn't it. They turn off all video in motion, yet allow you to start finger painting at a hundred miles an hour

Saving grace for the nav is voice address input. Works pretty good unless you speak Welsh.

How do you use this with gloves on? Wheel is far better in most circumstances.

The touch-pad can be disabled from model year 2016 onward. Originally, my 2015 C400 didn't allow the touch-pad to be disabled. I had an update to COMAND installed which gave me the capability to disable the touch-pad. I haven't disabled it though. It doesn't get in the way for me and sometimes I find it useful. I also prefer the touch-pad/wheel combo to a touch screen.
