I have a 2017 loaner right now and I like how the multifunction display in the gauge cluster shows what gear you are in. Are we able to get dealer to update our software to that version?

I saw the below thread which looks like it is possible, but the conversation turned to the boost gauge. Just wondering if I asked my dealer to do this if they could and would do it? And if anyone knows what all is updated in that version (gear selection, AMG menu, etc).

The dealer will check the HW and if there is an update they will update----if the HW won't accept an update-----well

My C450 had a faulty instrument cluster where the techometer would stick at 3K rpm when the car is off. The dealer replaced it and they loaded the newer software version on it.

I like the new AMG menu.

For what it's worth, my dealer said that Mercedes will not let them do a voluntary software update. I guess because a software update takes a lot of a tech's time (though it doesn't seem to me they would need to really be actively working on it while an update is underway, but I don't really know how car software updates work). He said there is obviously an update available (with the AMG menu, etc), but they can only do the update if there is an issue that calls for doing the update.

I wonder if a dealership would perform the update if the owner paid the normal shop rates out of pocket?

he puts down "Check if there' new software for navigation" on the order sheet.

is that a c450 loaner or a c300 loaner? i have a c300 loaner, it shows the gear.

It's a C300 loaner which shows the gear. I have a 2016 C450 which does not.

I don't think it's a software update situation. My 2015 C300 W4 (build date 12/14) has always shown what gear it's in. It also shows manual selection of the gear (using the paddles) by changing the normal "C_" to "M_". It's more likely a present that comes with the Distronic Plus package.

Mine is 2016 C300 , i can see which gear transmission is in both Manual and automatic mode. I do not have Distronic package

Interesting. So it doesn't seem to be an update associated with different model years. Do all C300's show gear in auto mode and C450's don't?

my 16 c300 shows it actually had 2 they both showed it, 1 was a prem 1 car and the other is prem2...no difference in the way the gauge cluster operated between them

2015 C300, no Distronic, built in Dec-14, has always shown what gear it's in.
