2016 c450 CEL Temperature Sensor Issue

Hi folks, I wanted to post my experience regarding a recent check engine light (CEL) issue I had so other people can learn from it. I am unsure if I posted this in the right section, so if it's not, can a mod please move it?

I recently bought a brand new 2016 c450 on October 31st 2016 here in Winnipeg, Canada. I have about 5000 kilometres on it and the check engine light came on around news years. I booked an appointment with Mercedes and took my car into the dealership and they said it was a temperature sensor issue and they replaced the external temperature sensor.

A few weeks later the CEL came on again. I took it into the dealership and they had Germany looking into it as Mercedes Canada couldn't figure it out. Eventually they found out that another c450 owner in Winnipeg had the same problem as me and they had fixed it the second time by replacing the coolant temperature sensor for him. So they figured they'd try that for me, so they replaced it and I got my car back yesterday. So far so good, everything is working great. I will update this post if there are any changes.

I just want to say that Mercedes Winnipeg went out of their way to make me happy and I do really appreciate the service the dealership provided me. They're a good bunch of people. They gave me a c300 as a courtesy car while I was waiting for my car to be fixed so it gave me a good opportunity to compare the differences between the two.

If anyone else has had similar problems, you may want to check into the fix that worked for me.

Hi folks, just a quick update to this post. This next winter came around (2017-2018) and my ambient temperature sensor triggered again. I took it into Mercedes and they advised me that there was a patch for this issue available. They ran the software update on my car and now I will wait and see if it happens again. They informed me that for other cars they ran the update on, the issue never returned. Here's hoping!

-Cheers, RP

Thanks for the update.

Had the same thing o a virtually brand new C43. Didn't take it to the dealer and just reset the code with a scanner. It got the sensor going. But good to know that MB has a patch for this ongoing issue.
