C400 Back from Dinan...

35 years in business and trickery wouldn't hold up if that was the case . Seriously people , no disrespect here but for 300 bucks even if you only get 25hp and torque it's worth it . And nobody ever said the app was super , it's 300 bucks !!. It's meant to allow a user to switch modes and maybe look at boost , most likely for the 18-25 year olds who find that trinket stuff neat. Dinan has a much better app on their full blown piggy back tunes ( I had one on a BMW) , but I paid for it too!! . If some are so bent about if they are really getting the performance , contact Dinan and maybe if you are in their area they will dyno the car for you ! Wayne posted his results on his 400 and they gave the results to him , they didn't have to do that ! Just my 2 cents . Heck Dinan is on here now , perhaps they will chime in , but at the end of the day you're getting a 20+ or more HP increase for next to nothing dollar to HP wise ...

Well, on reflection, I do think for $300 we are entitled an app that doesn't randomly and frequently disconnect even if it is butt ugly.
I'm with him: I'd of paid double.

So what's the tally so far? We got a dyno plot that shows +40hp, two guys that want to send it back, and two who are happy with it?
Would really like Dinan to post something...they've been silent since the first few posts.

It easy to fool a dyno and for some people is a placebo effect, I want to see and independent dyno and some drag numbers but for my little experience it's no producing much boost if any in sport + the only perceptible is on C around 2lbs

Dude, that's a bunch of subjective BS. There is no way your butt can tell the difference between 2# and 4# of boost.
Seems like some people think adding a few pounds of boost is the equivalent of adding two more cylinders. Hate to break it to ya', but it's not.

no no they don't ! That's reduculous . The unit works , period ...
dinan makes good products , they lack in app design. They aren't app designers , they are European car tuners and performance gear heads . You got a simple performance increase for 5 mins worth of effort for a minimal amount of money . It doesn't fault or cause the car to go into limp mode or do screwy things . The only thing the app is for is to switch power levels, that's it . I personally left mine in sport + mode and forgot about it . I don't even use the app and I can live it with that. In all fairness I would expect the "app" for those who are all up in arms about it will get improved and refined over time . My god people , we paid 300 bucks for a product that works and does what they say it does . It's funny, I still belong to several of the BMW forums and Dinan introduced this unit first obviously in that group considering it's their bread and butter .. and those people over there all rave about the simplicity of the product and understand it to be a "gateway drug" if you will and appreciate it for what it is . They don't care for the app either , BUT they overwhelmingly like the product and clearly by the response and threads must have sold hundreds and hundreds of them to that crowd and we're *****ing about an app ??? Maybe I'm simple minded here , but simple quick easy power pickup is what this thing is ...END . This is their "entry level" unit , of course if they come with full warranted tuning solutions those will be far more robust and I would expect those to cost much more , but this is what it is and I personally think it satisfies a large group of people who want just a bit more power and not looking for anything above that .

You put a product on the market and you warrant it is fit for ordinary purposes: an app that won't stay connected is not fit, so get another contractor. End of story.
Somewhere a Corvair smiled through the rust.
Each of us is entitled to an opinion, as are you, without being belittled for it, as are you.
Dinan, it's a fine product, at a low price: may I please have an app that stays connected and, eventually, a more advanced product at a higher price?
Sir, some more...please, Sir....

Something is amiss here - the four people who've actually replied have only commented on the default "Sport+" setting. Web description clearly states Sport, Sport+ and Race. Has anyone actually driven in the "Race" mode or is everyone meaning "Race" when they say "Sport+" mode?

Here's an old piece on dynos with Steve Dinan discussing the subject.

I don't know a ton about it, but from what I've been told by friends that are more deeply into tuning, that is correct that dynos aren't a great measure as they can be manipulated to basically say whatever. In this case where we are trying to evaluate the effectiveness of a product, I presume that could be gauged by a stock dyno run and a dinan-installed dyno run where the surroundings/settings, etc are controlled to be the same for each.

The other modes work, but S+ From Merc, alone, is such a beast, it's hard to reach a conclusion without objective data.
Clear?

I'll do better. Tough thread to dredge through when you specifically have a meaningless comment/reply on nearly every post in here.
Noted on the 93 though. It's tough but not impossible to find here in the Midwest. Many have evolved to splashing in a few gallons of E85 to more than make up the difference as the corn juice is much easier to find.

Come back when you have experience with the product.
