Anyone know what this is?

Does anyone know what this is?

I believe it is either a proximity sensor or for front camera (for those who have 360 view). My car has adaptive cruise control but doesn't have 360 camera.

Thanks!

sensor for adaptive cruise, it combines this with the vision system info.. (behind the Mercedes star)

The small black camera is for 360.

Thanks for the reply. So the small black camera is just a dummy since I don't have that as an option?

Have a look under the wing mirrors - is there a similar dome there? They're the side camera's for the 360. Maybe it's come with the 360 hardware and it just needs enabling?

It wouldn't have the actual cameras in place, those are dummy place holders.

Mine definitely doesn't have 360 camera, there are no cameras under the side mirrors either.

It must be dummy place holders but a very good one...

I have a 2017 C300 and a standard feature is collision prevention assist plus Attention Assist. I thought those were for the radar. There are three. The other two are in the grill. Layman terms when you are distracted and come up too fast you will have emergency braking. I have no interest in testing the feature. Once I told my wife I will follow her and when she brakes we will test the feature. I decided to pass.

I plan on testing mine with a balloon. I am very curious how well it works.

I have not reached the point where it breaks the car but I have had the alert and light go off a few times.

Hopefully it brakes the car and doesn't actually break it.

I had the unfortunate experience of testing it when I had a W205 loaner and it worked perfectly. I don't think I would have died but it certainly saved me a lot of headache and bodyache.
