12V power Tap for Sub Amp

Hi,

Can anyone please assist with where the best place to get power for an amp that will be mounted in the boot will be .I normally tap power directly from the battery don't really want to run a cable all the way from the front and don't even know if it is possible to run a 4 gauge cable through the firewall.

Also looked at the SAM/ Fuse box and there is a 4 Guage power cable that is feeding power to the module which would be ideal, but I don't know if it's safe to connect the power to that instead .

Any help will be appreciated.

There's both battery & accessory power available in the fuse box in the rear boot, it's next to the where the spare tyre normally would sit.

How much current are you expecting the sub & amp to draw at peak?

Hi Mike,Thanks that's what I did in the end and wasn't that difficult as the is a rectangle plastic cover behind the battery that I popped out and drilled a hole in it for the 4Guage cable. As for the power point ,I used the connections that are available next to the battery jump point instead of directly to the battery.

Thanks

Yeah, a lot of extra work but plenty of power for your gear. Mine is running a JL DSP, a Prima 8 channel amp and a 300 watt sub amp with plenty to spare.

Hi Mike,

Slightly off topic, so I installed my amps for the door speakers and a mono block for the sub.Anyway I have a slight engine whine off the door speakers I have tried earthing at different positions and the amp is installed next to the front footwell woofer and is powered of the factory head. The amp I have used is the BLAM RA 704 RT with DSP.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks
