its by design, to get the car up to speed and into a higher gear quicker for comfort and economy.

i hate it. I move the car to individual mode most trips where everything is set to comfort other than the transmission.

I had the same issue and I went with the route of tuning the TCU. It worked well, but I think the OEM has continue to adapt the driving styles and the symptoms is starting to show again. I plan to so the same process again to see if the reprogramming (tuning) would make it go away again. My car is a 2015 C400 7G with 52000km on it. Canadian car. 😁😁

Update: I saw Ronnie yesterday. He really is a helpful guy. Even though I showed up without an appointment and without any kind of notice, he immediately went on a road test with me despite being super-busy.

Interestingly when he drove the car the transmission behaved as if it knew we had guests. Later I realized that we have slightly different driving styles, that is he was just a bit harder on the acceleration resulting in proper 1-2-3 shifting. According to him the transmission cannot be re-programmed to shift differently. At least not by the dealer. The only thing they can do is re-adaptation which is not quite the same. I guess I'll be okay driving his style that makes the transmission actually use the 2nd gear properly.

There's also some noise that seems to be coming from the suspension. Kind of hard to hear unless you know what to listen to. While another foreman at a different dealership didn't actually want to hear it and shrug it off as "normal", Ronnie did take the time and made the effort, and showed genuine interest in trying to help me.
Even though he might not be able to fix quite everything his approach shows that he wants to help you.
The guy is A+++!
