Driving a 2018 C300 loaner today how to tell what radio?

As title states, I have a c300 2018 loaner today. My car is in for warranty work (recall items and roof panel rattle and software updates (complaint about tranny, engine cutting off fuel, and radio lagging, all items that should be updated)).

I havent tried the auto trunk feature yet so will see if I like or not. Since ive gotten tints the extendable visors on this 2018 arent a priority upgrade anymore but overall the build feels much more solid. I will see later where it was assembled.

The first and very important question is, how can I tell which NTG radio hardware version it has? It has the burmeister upgrade and apple car play. It sounds soo much cleaner and louder than my burmeister. also it is much faster with no lag between screens. the interface has different screen changes and volume has an output to screen. So at minimum it has a different software version. id be curious to know what it is if it is NTG 5.2 like the earlier w205 or if they indeed downgraded to NTG 5.1 like in the cla gla every other class with carplay as some have speculated.

My other question is once i figure out the hardware, how can i tell which software it has?

Thanks in advance.

I think that if it has the volume bar, then it might be downgraded to NTG 5.1 since I only saw that on the older head unit versions. I would be interested to know as well!

will keep this updated and may take a short video to see if anyone with a verified ntg 5.1 can tell any similarities.

Off topic but how do you like the 9G transmission? My biggest gripe with my car is the shifts are not smooth at all regardless of what mode I'm in.

I picked up a 2018 loaner this morning too. The two biggest differences I noticed over my 2015 is softer seats and lack of the touch pad. I kind of miss having the touch pad as a hand rest when using the dial even though I don't use the touch pad at all.

I'll keep an eye out for any other changes and will try plugging my phone in to check out CarPlay once I grab a phone cable from home.

i have had the 9g in my c43 for 6 months now and love it!!! it can be a little agressive at times which is why i went in for software update. initial impression is that it may handle the larger engine better than the smaller one. not sure why that would be the case.

on this c300, it appears to be pretty smooth but some shifts were slightly hard. I will let you know the more i drive it how it is.

I can say i got 27 mpg on city to 55mph roads on way to work. it makes me slightly jealous as a daily from an economy standpoint, but im sure once i feel the pull and hear the exhasut in my normal daily ill forget about the economy again

car was made in the US! After driving 40 miles today I am very impressed with the build quality. No rattles at all. feels solid. this model doesnt have the acoustic glass like my c43 and it was noticeable and louder in the cabin. I made sure the acoustic lock on radio was turned on.
apple car play works! And I love it. I have always been an apple user but one thing i really liked is you could press the voice button on steering wheel to bring up siri. i prefer this to the command which is why i do not get command. It worked flawless every time. I will be retrofitting to my 17 c43, i will make a seperate post about this after ive collected all data. I can confirm a headunit change will be necessary as well as coding and it should be plug and play. i took down part numbers for sirius sat unit, burmeister amp, and will get software and headunit version as well. before i turn it in at end of the day.

I noticed this car did not have night package yet it shipped with black hood badge. I think it looks better. easy ecu placement under hood if you like tunes.

I also noticed the rear spoiler is different than mine. the code is 104 on invoice. But it is different than the stock 17 c43 number of U47? Anyone know what the c63 ships with? I think the 104 is more agressive and may change to it. i think dealer added it on after delivery as i do not see on original build codes.

overall i am very happy with the build quality of the 18 c300 4 matic that i have. Today dealer fixed rattles in my 17 c43 so hopefully i should be good. They also updated ALL firmware for TCU, ECU, and head unit so i should have same as the 18s. And be ready for the AMR tune

I paid closer attention today, looked at the window sticker, and realized I'm driving a '17 loaner and not an '18. I thought the '17's still had the touch pad for control and assumed it was an '18.

I'm no help here... oops

[QUOTE=ecmexchange;7312135]ECU update make any noticeable difference in anything?[/QUO

the TCU updated definitely helped with gear choices and overall smoothness of box.

the ecu update, (placebo?) it makes the car feel like it has more power and jumps off the line quicker. sound and everything else is still the same.

radio update seems to have done nothing. need different radio!

Have gotten a 2018 model as well, produced 16 september. 9 speed is way more refined than the 7speed I´ve demoed before purchase. I opted for the extra noise insulated front windows, works like a charm. Absolutely no wind noise up to 180 km/h:-)

CarPlay works good, but map lacks details and here in Denmark, Europe, the maps has no speed limits presented. For navigation, I prefer the Garmin with the recent map, this works really good and accurate. Cannot understand why it is getting so bad reviews.

However my car still has both the dial/wheel and the touch for the Audio 20 - was not aware of any production model yet, without the touch?

i think the us based carplay is better but the garmin is worse. it always seems like mercedes ads us based navi as an afterthought. thats why i like carplay better. its "tuned" for america.
