PANORAMIC ROOF Shattered

This is not a problem isolated to Mercedes. Its a wide spread problem with the Ford Edges with the vista roof also and Ford will not cover under warranty either. I had a rental a few weeks ago while my Edge was in the shop. Opened the sunshade and the roof was shattered on a vehicle with 3600 miles on it thankfully we had purchased the extra insurance on the rental so they couldn't blame me.
Fingers crossed the C300 we are picking up tonight never has this issue as my partner insisted the new car have a pano roof.

Hi All,
Same thing happened to my A Class last Saturday - after sending the car to Mercedes UK they have told me this is not covered under warranty, they are expecting me to pay for the cost. Lucky this was caught on my CCTV check the below twitter link. They have also left me with me no courtesy car so I am expected to pay for my own travels to work etc. Has anyone managed to get this repaired by Mercedes? What should I do next if Mercedes are not taking responsibility for it?

Just happened
I’m looking this up now because it also just happened to me a few hours ago.
I was on the highway with my entire family (wife, 2 daughters and my puppy), no cars in front of me. Cruising speed on smooth highway road 2 hours into our drive when out of nowhere and for no apparent reasons the pano roof in my 2015 c300 4matic just exploded!! Very loud boom, glass shattering everywhere. Some got into the cabin including fine particles, spraying my family and myself. Luckily most of the debris was caught by the sunshade . I’m calling the dealership in the morning, curious to what they’ll say.
This could’ve gone very wrong being that I was on the highway. Luckily it did not get into my eyes or worse caused my to have an accident.
If this is a known issue, this is inexcusable. I’m angry to see this happening to other owners
*** UPDATE ***
Brought the car into MB on Saturday, said they would call to update me regarding their findings and pricing. Got a call this evening stating job has been completed without any charges because the car is under warranty. They still did not acknowledge why it broke but at least they owned up to repairing the vehicle.

2016 S550 Coupe Pano Roof Cracked
Well, to add another note to this chorus, I had my 2016 S550 Coupe roof crack from front to rear while driving down a 3 lane highway with no other cars near me. My roof didn't explode and the inside part of the safety glass is still solid (the crack is only in the outer part of the panel).
I took it to the MBZ dealer today and, after taking my report and taking several pictures, they said they would do what they could with MBZ but were concerned that MBZ would say it was caused by a rock chip so not covered under warranty.
When I hear back from the dealer I'll post the response from MBZ.

Pano Roof Cracked
Well, to no big surprise, my service guy at the dealer called today to tell me that MBZ considers the cracked roof to have been caused by impact damage even though to my eyes there is no impact damage visible and no other vehicles were around us when it cracked. I can't easily fight them on this since I don't have any leverage with them. They did say that they would pay for my insurance deductible so that I would have no out of pocket expense.
Now I'll have to see what my insurance says about it.

My insurance company agreed to cover the repair and the car is scheduled to go in the shop on May 13th. The delay is to allow time to get the roof and whatever other parts might be required from Germany. In the meanwhile, the roof has developed another crack but, according to the dealer, MBNA still claims it was caused by impact damage. The glass techs the dealer uses told me today that it looks like stress cracks and doesn't look like there was any impact point. And the dealer's service manager told me that he is going to try again to convince MBNA to cover it.
At this point I just want to get the roof repaired correctly regardless of whether MB or my insurance pays for it.
More later.

Well, my roof is finally repaired and the job was done very well. As far as I can tell using a bright light it is perfect and as good as it was when new.
The glass roof cost was $2800.00 plus $245 tax. The labor was $577.60 to the MBZ dealer to remove and reinstall the interior headliner and sunshade and $300.00 to the glass company that did the actual installation. Total bill was $3677.60. (My insurance uses Safelite for all glass work and the local glass company that did the work is approved by Safelite, approved by my insurance and is the company that does all of the work for the MBZ dealer.) All the work was done in the dealer's service shop.
Since MBZ said the damage had to be caused by impact and would not cover it under the warranty, my insurance agreed to cover it with no questions asked. The dealership paid for my deductible as "goodwill."
This isn't how I would have thought it should have been handled by MBZ but the job is done, done well and at no out-of-pocket cost to me.
