MB Certified Bodyshop - Mechanic took my car home for the weekend?

Hello MB World -

On December 17th my boyfriend was driving my C450 on the highway and was rear ended on the passenger side of my car, the vehicle then did a 360 into the median on the highway causing significant damage to the divers side rear of the car (Photo Attached ). Everyone involved in the accident was 100% okay, however my car sustained some extensive damage and has been getting repaired since (It's now 45 days later - Jan 29th). I live in downtown Chicago and was referred by my dealer to an MB certified bodyshop since they don't do bodywork.

This evening, for no particular reason, I opened my "Mercedes me" app on my phone and saw something odd...my vehicles current location is at a residential address downtown NOT at the bodyshop. I drove my rental car to try and find it but it's currently in a locked garage that I don't have access to. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed, I understand that techs need to drive the cars they work on to ensure that everything was fixed correctly but taking my car home for the weekend (shop is closed Saturday/Sunday) without my consent isn't okay with me.

I set the Valet protect/Speed Alert to "on" via mBrace so I'll get a text message as soon as the car moves. Ultimately I'm planning on confronting the shop about this, but I'm not sure how far i'll get with my complaint since its parked in a very high-rent area of downtown so it's likely someone in Management at the shop that took it home...Has anyone ever had this happened to them??

Make sure you take screenshots of it's location and bring it up to the manager there. See how they react and if you are satisfied with the reasoning they give you. Also, you can check the added mileage on it to get an idea of how much it was driven etc... If you're not happy with the reason they give you for why they drove your car you can escalate it higher depending on the shop - as a last resort you can tell them you'll be leaving bad reviews online and not recommending this shop to anyone in the future.

probably the body shop have no more room to store your car inside, it much better to drive it home then park outside the body shop when someone can break the windows or steal the wheels.

Definitely not kosher. I would be having a word with the shop owner. Further, would be also talking to your dealer about ceasing to recommend that body shop. And would seek revocation of the body shop's M-B Certification.
