Service Loaner?

Service Loaner?
Hello all,
when getting a scheduled service at the dealer, and requesting a loaner:
-is it just like a rental process-where i give my credit card for a security deposit?
Or do we just trade cars(after checking my insurance)?
-can i request a nicer car than my model?
Or ask for another one if i don't like what they give me?

Credit card yes, mostly if you don’t refill the gas. Don’t forget it’s like 8 bucks a gallon. Nicer yes if they have them. I’m in a brand new GLE loaner, I requested something smaller like the E class but at this point I don’t even care anymore.

Yes to credit card. It’s for gas, tolls, etc.
Some dealers only give you the same class car you bought in. So some only give C class loaners if you drove in with a C Class.
Other dealers give you you options if the loaner guy is cool. I occasionally get an E or GLE.

My dealer comes to pick up my car and leaves a loaner. Usually a C Class. No credit card required and no charge for the pick up and return. They just check drivers license and insurance carrier. I've never asked for a different model because it is usually a one or two day deal and I really don't care what they leave.
