Maps update (Canada) 2015 C400 question

Was at the service dept today and inquired about how much it would cost to update my maps from 2015 to the latest. Was told that the maps themselves would cost me $95 but that they would need to use the computer in the shop to generate a vehicle specific code. Code and labour (time to install) is $400...which is outrageous. I know US models have 3 years free maps but it doesn't apply here.

Has anyone in Canada been able to update their maps by purchasing just the maps and been successful in updating without the code?

Thanks.

Had the same issue with my 2016 GLA. When I purchased this vehicle brand new, I asked the salesman if map upgrades were free. He said for the first three years, upgrades were free (which is stated in the Command Manual, p206 if I remember correctly). During the first year of ownership, an update came out and I contacted the dealer about it. I was told that the free update in the manual was a misprint and that free updates apply to US vehicles only.

I insisted that misprint or not, I was entitled to the update(s) because there was no disclaimer in the manual that came with the car when I purchased it. I was given a free map upgrade but was told that succeeding upgrades would not be free.

Show your dealer the Command manual and point to the page where it is clearly stated the upgrades are free for the first three years. You still have this year to do it.

Thanks...I'll give this a try. Hope that the fact that I bought this used doesn't change anything.

The maps are not free in Canada.
I went to the "fighting" process using same argument: is in manual, etc.
The reality is that the canadian manual is a copy of the one from US and they forgot to remove free map updates for first 3 years for the Canadian market.
If you are checking a VIN of a US car you will see free map update listed. For Canadian ones it is not present.
Dealer can update once for free as good will, i got this free update after I argued nicely with them. The second one I paid for, but i did myself the update. Realy simple took approx 30min.
I paid 300CAD tax included for map version 10 which suposedly is the latest available in Canada even if the new cars are coming from factory with version 11.

That's interesting. So other than the DVD, you didn't need to enter a code into the system to update the maps? I assume it's a DVD you purchased as opposed to the USB stick or SD Card? You don't have the part # for the upgrade do you?

The part number for Map Version 10 is A 222 827 90 00. It is a USB not a DVD.
You need to have the proper code to be able to update the maps. This code is generated using the car VIN and cannot be used for other cars with different VINs.

That's what I thought. Dealer is saying it's $400 for the code ($150 for the code, $250 for labour to install). The maps themselves are cheap, $95.

How did you get the code?
