Thinking about buying a C300. I have some questions.
I am thinking about getting me a 2016 or 2017 Mercedes C300. I have a 2009 Mercedes C350 that I am going to sell it soon.
I understand that the 2015 C300 is having engine issues (wrist pins). What about 2016 and 2017 model years?
What is the most common problem/issues with 2016 & 2017 C300? What about carbon build-up in intake ports? I used to have a 2007 BMW 335i (twin turbo), it requires cleaning the carbon.
Is there anything else I should watch out while shopping for a C300?
Thanks -chazzz

I wouldn't take his word as gospel. The general consensus is the engine pitsoutb solid power. Dinan tune adds even more.

I wouldn't buy a c300. My 2015 has been to the dealer once a month since i got it. 2016 and 2017 suffer from many of the same issues wind noise and intermittent key-less entry not working.

Anyway...still looking for a perfect car.

Ugh. I was going to get a C300. What other make/model of a car do you recommend? It has to be an entry-level luxury car. I'm not a fan of Japanese-made cars like Lexus and Acura. I did some research on used cars, in April 2018 issue Consumer Reports magazine. Consumer Reports showed that Mercedes C-class is classified as "worse than average" but the C300's engines are better than some other German cars, like Audi A4. BUT, Audi A4 is considered as "much better than average". That is really confusing me. My son's friend, his father drives an Audi and he told me that he would never buy an Audi again because of issues.
Anyway...still looking for a perfect car.

Those reliability ratings are usually during the first few years on new vehicles, doesn’t mean much. Most are due to navigation/tech. Even though I’ve had to bring mine in for warranty work, multiple times and not to mention had a spark plug break on the freeway, I still really really like it. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, I’ve all heard horror stories from each. I’ve heard the worst from Audi, then BMW, and then Mercedes. Recently one of my good friends has an 2011 Audi A4 paperweight. The engine completely pooped out and has to be replaced. Things happen, but wow. I really liked the new A4 with the digital speedometer but people I knew who previously owned Audi’s talked me out of it. TBH I see a lot more older Mercedes than I see Audi and bmw. The ONLY comparable Japanese car company that drives like the Germans is lexus(Well the rwd based models) but I’m not a fan of their designs.

I’ve had my 2015 for about 2 months now and I love it! I’ve had to bring it in for warranty work already but I still love it. Keep in mind this is the internet and people don’t usually come on to say “my car is running great, no complaints, have a great day”. I had a 2010 e550 coupe a few years back that had plenty of power I never used. I loved that car (no b pillars) but I like this one just as much! Get a sport package, lighting package, pano, and distronic if you can.

2015 C300 Lux 4MATIC
A number of people wrote about problems on this forum, but that is the nature of such forums. I can assure you, many thousands of owners enjoy this car around the world and so, if you like the car, buy it.

I have a 2015 that has been int he shop plenty of times and I still love it. If I was in the market now I'd try to wait for the new models to come out, they updated the steering wheel and infotainment.

I have a 16 4matic. My issues are, 1. the sunroof went crunch, I have one of the door handle LED burn out and a noisy passenger head rest. Other than that it has been fine. I do have the Dinan piggyback and it it a lot of bang for 300 bones.

I have a 2016 C300 and so far no issues at all. Very happy not to see the dealership.
Rented an Audi A4 in Europe last year. The M6 trans with the diesel was fantastic, but not available in the US. Rode fine, but the interior was nothing compared to the C300.

I have the 2017 C300 sports package and I am quit pleased. Surprised with the acceleration. My other car is a 2017 Porsche 911 and after driving the Porsche for a while the C300 seems like a very nice smooth quiet change. Just my opinion.

2015 C300
I've had my C300 Sport for about a month and no issues so far. Love the style inside and out. The engine is punchy. I'm coming from an Acura TLX and I think this car has much better acceleration. I would echo the "get the warranty" advice. Just for peace of mind if anything. I think you'll enjoy the car I know I have.

CFG is a dumbo. Don’t put any emphasis on his words. He comes into c300 questions thinking he’s the be all end all. He consistently complains about the engine, Meanwhile he doesn’t own a c300.
I have a 2017 4m sport. Besides some rattles in the interior that were taken care of by my dealer in NY. No engine problems whatsoever. I have a dinan piggyback and a bms air intake. I WHOOOOOP cars with bigger engines. If you get lighter wheels, forget about it. The power is great, the engine is reliable and it won the 10 best engines list by wards auto. http://www.wardsauto.com/2017/2017-w...ged-dohc-4-cyl

CFG it’s safe to say you have proven my point.
You have a CLS and a C450. I have a C300. The majority of the owners on this c class forum have c300s. It’s probably one of the best cars I’ve ever owned.
You’re a consistent ********... we get it. Go knock yourself out on a CLS forum or c450 forum. Use your slang and bang on people who give a ****. Or like I said half a year ago, ditch both cars and get an e63 (superior to CLS and c450).
This way, your with your “kind” on an e class forum and out of the lives of the men who can’t afford your CLS and c450 tastes and vacations and wine and popping champagne with your blue blood friends over purple **** carpeting.

haha it’s all good~
If i had a v6 w205 i can imagine how pleased i would be, considering how happy i am with my ‘16 c300.
No problems at all so far (i even prefer its voice command over Carplay(i can check/show off weather radar while listening to music
) -i’d only suggest non-runflats b/c you usually gotta replace at least 2 at a time:/
Design-wise, the sport trim(aware it’s not AMG) in my opinion is better looking than competing bmws, audis, alfas, and especially lexus. The interior quality and look seems timeless.
I say go for it, because even tho it may not be a v6, it’s still a merc. (...and we can feel the same way CFG feels, to them “other” companies, haha j/k)

CFG, you’re right the c300 is a gem all around. Engine is a gem as well. Change my mind blue blood.
I’ve spent close to a year with the engine and have had zero problems. There is no wheezing, there have been zero cases. Any claims of wheezing are mere exaggerations of a man with no factual evidence.
CFG has no idea about wheezing engines. Spend two years in Afghanistan and I’ll show you what a wheezing engine sounds like! Ala Japanese, Chinese, Koreans etc.

The install was easy, the only part that is difficult is pulling out the OEM cover/intake tube without breaking anything. I feel definitely more throttle response and it’s not noisy at all. I contacted them about “heat soak issues”, they said if there is any heat it’s minimal at best. I’ve had no issues and good gains. Here’s some photos:
