Brake Job Quote High?

Just got the quote from my indy mechanic on all four wheels balanced, new rotors, and pads for all four corners of my wife's 2016 C300 4-door (sport model). $1,500. Is this high? Average?

A few months ago, I bought a pair of rotors on ebay (factory mb parts) for a little less than 300, a pair of ebc redstuff front pads for a little over 100, and a pair of ebc redstuff rear pads for a little less than 100. I paid a friend 100 to do everything for me so all in all, i spent a little over 500. So yeah it seems a little too high.

Buy the parts yourself and get quotes on labor only from at least three Indies. For the rotors and pads check eBay, Autohaus Arizona, R1 Concepts, FCP Euro, MBOEMParts, etc. You may want to considering having stainless steel lines installed while you're at it. I would recommend going with slotted rotors for the performance advantages - they also look very cool behind open spoke rims.

Are the stock pads Mercedes used semi-metallic? Mercedes branded? I'd like to change my high mileage pads for the same so I don't have to change my rotors as they seem to be ok. I travel a lot of highway miles, I just rolled 80k with the stock brakes.

Stock pads are semi-metallic. It has good stopping power but make a lot of dust. Akebono Performance Pads are good for normal daily driving and make less dust as it's ceramic. If the disc is in good condition but has some scores, resurfacing will be enough.

Thanks, I'm thinking I am going to go back with the factory pads and scuff the rotors since they are not warped, I should be able to do it in a Saturday morning. Any special tools I need to change the brakes? I will be changing them at my new house so I'll have to bring tools over from my garage at my old house. Nothing worse than not having the tool you need when you need it!

Release the parking brake on the instrument cluster menu before replaceing the rear pads. All procedures are the same with other vehicles. I would also replace the fluid. You may need Motive power bleeder. One man bleeding works but it sucks air through the bleeder thread. You can apply grease on it but using the power bleeder will be better.
