Exclamation Exclamation Scratching Sound Coming from Passenger Side AC Vent

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker for my mother's MB's... but only 2nd post here. Thank you for this amazing community.

I am a proud new owner of a 2015 C300 4Matic. I just purchased it CPO from Silver Spring, MD just a couple of weeks ago.
A few days after I started driving the car, I started hearing the noise coming from the Passenger Side AC vent, almost inside of it. At first it sounded a bit like static, but upon further listening, it sounds more like a scratching/whirring/mechanical/static like sound that comes and goes.

I of course did a large search for others with similar problems and I think some come close, but I can't be sure because they don't have soundbites for me to listen and compare.

I went to the service guys at MB and they opened up the hood, popped the air filter area out and said it could be dried up leaves and debris that is making the noise. Funny thing is it seemed to work for a couple hours, no noise. The next day it's back.

It seems to happen more often while driving, at low RPMs... but I'm hesitant to say it has anything to do with the engine, the sound is coming from right behind the passenger vent. I was unable to upload the 20 second video, but I have provided a clean link to the shared google drive video. You can clearly hear it here. Any help would be great because I just bought this car!

^^ This is the link to the video, please listen to the sound. Does anyone know what this is?!

Much Love,

Butter

My 2017 C300 makes this kind of noise except it is not as loud as yours. In fact it is barely noticeable and it doesn't seem to come and go as abruptly as yours. I was suspecting that the fan bearing is wearing out or the fan blades touching the housing. It would be premature, but I wouldn't be surprised as this whole car is poor quality.

Try turning off the fan and see if you can still hear it.

Yes it's definitely coming from the Fan. I should have stated that in my op, When I turn the fan off, the noise stops. So it's coming from the fan. I talked to the sales guy and he said I might need to "blow the pipes out"

Give them a taste of their own medicine: lie!
Just tell them you did blow the pipes out and there's no difference. Let them deal with it. It's their garbage.
