C400 Resonator Delete

Has anyone with a C400 deleted their resonators? I'm looking for a louder exhaust tone, I know our cars have two resonators. Anyone delete 1 or both and kept the OEM mufflers? Or has anyone gone to dual pipes, no resonators and OEM mufflers?

If you delete yours, please let us know the results. I'm in a C400 as well, and I can't stand the sound of the v6, as is. Lots of droning and groaning, but not much character or appeal, imo.

You currently get droning with your stock set up? My car sounds good, I just want it louder. I'm tempted to take one resonator off and keep one like the C450/C43, I just don't want to get stuck with a bunch of droning and have to put it back on. I see the AWE exhaust keeps the front resonator with dual pipes and their mufflers. I did a search on oemmecedesparts and noticed that there are different mufflers for the C450/C43, regular and PE mufflers. Our mufflers have a different part number so I'm not sure what the sound will be like. I know others have done this with their C450's and 43's and love it, but like mentioned they do have different mufflers. My thought was to go dual pipes all the way back to the OEM mufflers but I'm a hesitant because of the drone factor.

Like this other member on here, only difference are the mufflers:

In my case, I think it's more that I don't like the v6 sound/feel. Less of an issues of this particular v6 more an issue of the characteristics of a v6 in general. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if making it louder would actually just annoy me more. Still though, you never know until you try (or watch videos kindly posted by those who already have )

I know what you mean. I’m used to a 351w V8 with dual exhaust. However I like the pops and crackles, after the tune the engine does just that when down shifting on S+ mode. I want to hear it more. I might just try it but i want to hear one in person. I just don’t know anyone with a C400, specially one that has modes.

How did you get exhausted pops? Mine doesn't pop or crackle at all. My morning cereal emits more stirring sounds lol. But, I'm about to spring for the jb4 upgrade on my jb1. It's not all about the sound. This is a legitimately nice, quick car. I resisted being jealous about Android auto, and even the 9 speed trans so far (this one is a bigger regret though), but once the I6 starts making its way into the pre-owned market, I might have to jump ship.

They were added by OE Tuning “I also added exhaust pops and burble at 3000-3500rpm”. I can only hear them when my windows are down and at high RPM’s. I hope changing the exhaust pipes help bring them out!

I deleted both resonators and added an electric cutout on the midpipe where the second resonator was and stock muffler installed. No drone with cutout closed and very loud with the cutout opened.

Thank you for the info! Do you still have that setup? How did it sound with the cutout closed? Did it buzz or was it sporty?

yep the setup is still the same but I installed catless DP. Without catless DP and cutout closed the car has a deeper exhaust note and slightly louder than stock setup. With Catless DP the volume and exhaust note is way louder.

No buzz then? I really would hate if it sounded like a Honda with a muffler! Also does the car burble or crackle? Any sound clips? I’m moving forward with exhaust work next week. I hope I don’t regret it. Dropping both resonators going dual pipe.

Thanks for the input.

Alex

not really sure what u mean by buzz but with catless dp the exhaust note sounds higher pitch. Without catless dp its just loud with lower pitch. The car has a bit burble after all the exhaust work but still way less burble when compared to c43. Pm me your email or phone no. So i can send u the clip. I’ve been trying to upload it but it failed everytime

Had the exhaust work done! Car is slightly louder, not a real difference. No drone; installed magnaflow X-pipe, no resonators and dual pipes all the way to stock mufflers. Just like the pictures in my first post (not my car). Cold starts sounds better, not worth the work done IMO. I would suggest getting different mufflers.. This of course is for the C400, C450 and up have AMG mufflers therefore sound different and better IMO.

My next move is getting C43 AMG mufflers and installing them!

Keep you guys posted!!

Hey Alex, what do you suggest the best route would be to get the best exhaust sound? X-pipe and C43 mufflers? I went tune and catless downpipes and it definitely improves the sound at higher RPMs - no real annoying drone but the downside is the smell of gas/exhaust fumes is waaaay stronger so might not be idea for most.

Where did you end up getting your C43 mufflers? I've been looking around for some used ones but I cant find any.

Our C400 mufflers are what keeps our cars quite. If you add the C43 mufflers it will sound exactly like a C43! The X-pipe and dual pipes just makes the car flow more freely in my option. When I made the change and had my OEM C400 mufflers, I didn't notice anything change with exhaust note, it jus sounded better at cold start. Now with C43 mufflers my car sounds how it feels; sporty!

Hey man, did you change the entire exhaust or was it just bits and pieces that helped change the car for you? I have a C400 and really really want to get some crackles and pops. Thanks
