Mercedes C300 M274
As an update MB no longer offer the new engine or new basic engine they only offer the long block part number 2740103116 80
The additional 2 digits at the end (80) mean it's a remanufactured part therefore the following must be outdated

Mercedes C300 Coup
Same issues

Given this awful new vehicle market, I chose to repair my vehicle so my lawyer is getting back in touch with them and we’ll wait to find out the final decision. As of now the repair has not been approved YET.
Hi, I am having the exact same issue with my 2017 C300. Can you please let me know which attorney you used? I am also located in California. Thank in advance for any help you can provide.

Sorry to hear of the situation. Thanks for posting on this thread so owners with experience navigating this process can help. MB failed consumers (again) on this one.

As someone with a 2017 C300, nearing 65k miles, this upcoming year should be interesting...

I have a 2017 E300 4Matic black color with 127,000 miles. I beat the sh*t out of it every day. Changed oil every 5,000 miles.

I also have another 2017 E300 4matic but white instead of black. It has 102,000 miles and is way more neglected than the black one (haven't changed the oil as frequently, had a check engine light on for the PCV breather hose and thermostat on for about 1.5 years, changed the spark plugs for the first time at 82,000 miles instead of the recommended 30,000 miles, etc).

i don't believe it's every engine with this issue. You should be fine

Cracked piston in cyl 1.

Mercedes refuses to cover 100% of repair costs , which is in my view ridiculous as cracked piston is not something that normally happens as the result of normal wear and tear, especially in a 4 year old car.

This will be my last Mercedes, lesson learned ! Bye, Mercedes.
This just happened to my 2015 C300 at 62k miles. The pistons are defective and MB knows it!

M274 ENGINE FAILURE

I also want everyone here to know to cross your fingers because two weeks ago I sent an actual physical letter to the NHTSA administrator and it was a Defect recall petition . The difference between this and an online complaint is that my petition will assure by federal law that our problem will be investigated by the nhtsa within a certain amount of time (believe it was less than 90 days ) and if the deny it they are also required by law to state the reason for denial in the federal register . It’s something I found out about through by hours and hours of reading to figure out a way to make sure Mercedes’ takes responsibility for this problem . This problem is also affecting owners of glc300’s , metris vans and some other Mercedes’ models with the m274 engines . The more complaints we have on the nhtsa site , the better as they will see my petition and look for others with the same issue . I did send them screen shots of various complaints all with the same issue to get them started . I’m very confident this will be resolved so we all just need to have faith and hang in there just a little longer .
Hi, 2018 GLC 300 owner with a failed engine...do you have an update regarding a resolution? Is there a risk of reoccurrence with engine replacement?

There was a class action initiated in the US Case # 2:22-cv-08130 along with an ODI directive by NHTSA on September 28, 2022 DP-22-002, subject: engine failure (wrist pin).

This is such a sad situation, had the same experience with my 2018 GLC 300 piston #1 with 0 compression, 88 000 kms & 14 days before warranty expires....If you are in the US you can join the class action, case 2:22-cv-08130. I'm not sure if we can join here in Canada.

The case number is 2:22-cv-08130, filed by The Kalfayan Law Firm, Del Mar, CA on behalf of Lena Jamil and others.

There's been a class action launched in Del Mar, California, Jamil vs MB.
