Non OEM illuminated star (easiest wiring yet)
I bought the non OEM illuminated star from ebay and was able to install and have it lit with the parking lights. i have 2018 C300 with LED headlights. At the driver's side headlight plug, tap the red wire into the gray/yellow wire and ground the black wire to frame. The star will come on with parking lights.

how did you figure out which wire to connect to?
I have a 2015 CLS and it does not have the colored wire you stated. It does have many other colored wires. Did you put a tester on it to determine volts? Peter.

To be clear - when the headlights come on (day or night), the star comes on, right?
I just came from a shop to get an LED star hooked up to my E350 with LED headlights. They said because it uses CANBus, they cannot connect to any of the headlight wires - would require different wiring, a switch, etc.
I'm wondering if I just went to the wrong shop.

why not unplug one of the headlight plug and test thr wires yourself to see if one will work

They said they tested for current and because of the LED headlights and CANBus, it wasn't going to work.
I took it to the shop, because this isn't my thing. I wanted to pay someone to do what I thought would be pretty easy for a professional.

Headlights are CANBus so maybe you can go back or try a different shop and ask them to find a parking wire or just have them tap into one of the wires for the ambient lights from inside the car and run it to the star. That is more work but its an alternative instead of having a switch to turn on the star

I hooked mine to the fuse box, and it comes on whenever the car turns on. The only reason I did this was because I didn't have instructions and there was no damn way I was going to touch some expensive *** headlights. I just hooked the black wire to ground, then the red into the fuse box.

Spliced into Grey/Yellow
So I spliced the red wire to the grey/yellow wire from the driver's side headlight and the black cable to ground. But I can't get the star to light up.
