Apparently these jobs are SUPER expensive. Total estimate from dealer is $2000 ( $1500 + $500).
Here is where I need help from you all - I have seen on pelicanparts.com that breather hose can be done in 1 hr by a novice DIY person with almost basic tools.
What is your take on that ?
just scroll up on this thread. It's a hose and a hose clamp.

My local MB dealer (NorCal) refused to cover fuel hose repair under my CPO warranty even though the car only has 55,000 miles on it. Asked them for best price out the door and they are repairing it for $450.00 today.

Since it's a rubber hose they are probably considering it a wearable part, not covered under warranty.

Most likely
1. Crankcase breather hose
2. Fuel line repair
All mercedes dealers know about these issues. But if you take it outside to anyone else they will not even be able to diagnose.
Coz it is NOT like the smell is always there.
And it is expensive and labor intensive for them to open up the car to confirm. But mercedes folks from their experience already know this.

our cars have a tray at the bottom, so you won't see any puddles on the floor. It even collects the air conditioning drain onto the tray.

start the car after leaving it overnight, and see if you still have the fuel smell. You might be able to spot the fuel line (at the back of the engine leading to the high pressure fuel pump) and there might be a leak there if its serious enough.

All you need is to either replace the clamp, or the hose and clamp. I had this within the first year I got the car, and the dealer replaced the clamp and no issues for 2 years.

How to access

Here is a pic from underneath that I took before I replaced mine:

They use this flexible hose to connect the engine-side rigid fuel lines to the car body-side rigid fuel lines. As the engine moves back and forth in normal operation, it puts force on these two clamped connections. Not a great design in this orientation and I can certainly see why so many have failed over the last 3 to 4 years!
HOW DO I ACCESS THIS? Take cover off and it’s there?

Hello All,

Mercedes C300 and GLA250 – Fuel Smell Class Action Investigation

The law firm of Sauder Schelkopf LLC is investigating a class action lawsuit on behalf Mercedes C300 and GLA250 vehicles that may be prone to a strong smell of fuel to its occupants. It has been alleged that consumers with these Mercedes vehicles are experiencing high pressure fuel line leakage.

Please submit your info to them, so they can take action on our behalf and make Mercedes recall these cars and fix them or pay for the repair if it's already done. https://www.sauderschelkopf.com/inve...investigation/

Well, it took almost 147,000 miles on my 2016 and I am now smelling gas. I smelled it the other day in the drive thru at Starbucks and was looking at the cars in front of me trying to figure out which one of the cheap looking cars was leaking gas. Headed down the road and the smell went away. I started my car today and it smelled really strong. I am hoping it's just the hose under the steering shaft like @diamondsilver16 so graciously posted the pics of. We'll see, I don't have much time to fix it, I go in for a total knee replacement on Wednesday, I need to take care of this before Tuesday or it'll have to wait.

Well, no more gas smell. I put the car on my quick jack lift and took the bottom trays off and didn't see any gas leaks. I did not smell gas either. I started a few times over a couple of days and didn't smell any gas. I took it off the lift and drove a 4 hour round trip today and still didn't smell any gas. Guess I'll wait until the odor comes back.

My leak was exactly the same. It only seemed to happen when I left my car parked in my garage.

You won't see any leaks because the gas drys quickly

I started my car remotely today, temps in the low 20’s. I got in the car about 20 minutes later and I smelled a strong odor of gas. Had to park it and take my wife’s car. Back to the drawing board to locate the leak.

I had the exact same problem.

(205-470-0275, 274-070-333264, 274-070-3500, about $70 online...). called back, told him I never smelled gas, dont understand why suddenly it is leaking, he told me to come in and he would show me. i get there, entire dealership reaks of gas aleady, usually always does anyway, tech says no leak but he smelled gas when he was bringing the car into the shop. explains that it is very common and they just did the same job on 2 other cars and they do it a lot. showed me the parts, also old parts with some dirt/residue on them. i'm not convinced, told them not to do it, 3 hours labor seems excessive to me... they weren't even sure if the issue was fixed in the new parts... no recall yet...
anyone else with a w205 have this issue? anyone swap the parts themselves?
Ppurchased mine through local dealership. Had same fuel smell. They stated it was the fuel rail. Car has only 35k on it. They fixed and replaced free of charge. Noting it was a common problem and no recall for defect?

They won't recall anything until something tragic happens or if they are forced to. Most known issues become service bulletins and are repaired as needed, that way they don't have to fork out the money to repair all the models made during a certain timeframe when possibly some of the models are not experiencing the problems.

My car has so many miles that I bet if there is a recall eventually they would exclude my car based on mileage. I haven't found my leak yet, it's intermittent and only seems to occur when it's really cold. I may just pop off the clamps at the fuel rail and the line under the steering shaft and replace the clamps and be done with it.

Thought I'd post my experience. I had this issue for a few months and finally thought I should try to resolve it. I went to a good local mechanic and he put it up on a lift and took the under panels off. He thought there was a leak from the hose mentioned above and replaced it with a generic rubber hose and standard worm drive clamps. He also changed the clamps of the other hose leading from the rail to the high-pressure fuel pump. The fuel smell actually persisted and may have even been more frequent. They then ordered the 2 rubber hoses from the dealer and replaced the o-ring in the high-pressure pump. The smell seems to have resolved.

Lessons learned, just replace both hoses as the part are fairly cheap. Maybe just use OEM especially for the top hose. Maybe 1-2 hrs labor max. It seems like most average mechanics can solve it, don't need a dealer. Also, the high-pressure o-ring is a cheap part that can be replaced easily.

Fuel Odor

Just got a 2016 C-300. Love the car and just started smelling gas in the interior and around the car. Hopefully, the class action lawsuit will result in a recall.

Good news, all. I just received a letter in the mail from Mercedes USA. They are extending the original warranty from 4 years/50,0000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles for the low pressure fuel hose to high pressure fuel pump issue. If you already paid for a repair, the letter says you may be eligible to receive reimbursement under this warranty extension so long as you present "adequate documentation" to your Mercedes dealer. A copy of the letter is attached.

Excellent news as I just got my 2016 C300 and was smelling the gas as well. Calling my ME/BE Dealership this morning. At least now I can tell the "old lady" Mercedes is picking up this tab.

I'm out, my 2016 has 158,000 miles. Looks like I'll have to do this myself.

Are they talking about the hose shown in post #33 of this thread?

I just got the same letter as ndr posted above in the mail today. I think it's pretty cool of MB to send mail about this. I have smelled a fuel odor after my car sits in the garage for a while, but it comes and goes.

I prefer to do most of my own work, but I may actually go back to the dealer (cringe) for this one. I bet it will be diagnosed as "something else" and quoted $2000+ to repair, lol.
