Dealer says fuel smell/leak... w205 2015 C300 base
Had my car in for prepaid service B. Service rep calls and says my car is leaking gas, big job $700, potential fire hazard if fuel leaks onto exhaust. we park in a garage and never smelled fuel. told me if they dont fix it that i would have to sign a paper that i am aware of fuel leak. i asked for part numbers and said i would call back. (205-470-0275, 274-070-333264, 274-070-3500, about $70 online...). called back, told him I never smelled gas, dont understand why suddenly it is leaking, he told me to come in and he would show me. i get there, entire dealership reaks of gas aleady, usually always does anyway, tech says no leak but he smelled gas when he was bringing the car into the shop. explains that it is very common and they just did the same job on 2 other cars and they do it a lot. showed me the parts, also old parts with some dirt/residue on them. i'm not convinced, told them not to do it, 3 hours labor seems excessive to me... they weren't even sure if the issue was fixed in the new parts... no recall yet...
anyone else with a w205 have this issue? anyone swap the parts themselves?
Of course the car is back home in the garage and no smell of gas. Pretty funny how usually if gas gets onto something it smells for hours/days...

They were also very difficult to deal with when we brought the car in for a service bulletin almost 2 years ago for some internal part in the engine that was causing noises/clicking/ticking, and also for the driver and passenger window service bulletin. They flat out refused to service the car for the service bulletins, even though I had the service bulletin numbers. Ended up having to take the car to another dealer an hour away from home, who did service our car and managed to get our warranty extended since engine work was done.
I got the service bulletin work done at MB of fairfield... they also denied the service bulletins when I told them about it, but they agreed once I gave them the numbers... now that my warranty is done, I doubt I will ever take this car to a dealer again, heh. I only did the prepaid service because of the 2 bigger service B jobs that were coming up at the time...
If it’s gas leak and common issue, it must be recalled. Go to NHTSA website and file a complaint. Tell them the dealer said MB already knew the issue and they were fixing it a lot. lol.
My 2016 has started having this problem, noticing it on and off. Sometimes very strong smell and other times no smell at all. Got to get it into the dealer very soon.
I just bought a 2016 CPO. They told me as part of the service they preemptively replaced a fuel line known to have problems. Unsure if this is the same issue.
Ive experienced the same issue leaking ,fuel hose leaks cold, once slightly warmed quits leaking, then hard to duplicate, its the fuel hose,s to high pressure pump need to be replace with new clamps

MY 2015 CPO C300, which I purchased on May 2018 had an intermittent fuel leak. Driver side, in back, down between the engine and body.
The fuel lines are pressurized, so it might only leak when the pressure builds up. I kept getting a STRONG gas smell the garage after parking for long periods.
I eventually took pictures of the position and gas spill as proof (it will dry up quickly) and the dealer replaced the lines under warranty.
When you buy a CPO, it's best to pay very close attention to the vehicle for the first year.
Recently purchased a 2015 C300 (this was my first car purchase) and took it to my local dealership for the auto/start stop function not working, and they replaced the primary starter battery, and the service advisor told me about a report from a lot of C class owners saying that they smelled gas after being parked for a while, I thought I noticed that but I thought it was something else or a different issue. They replaced the fuel lines, all under warranty. Ever since I've been really paranoid about Mercedes-benz and the early production W205, and I've done nothing but read up MBWorld and join, and on my last day of the factory warranty, I took it in for the wrist pin sound issue that I had heard on cold starts and squealing brakes on cold starts as well. Let's hope all goes well on my first car purchase and being a MERCEDEZ BENZ!
My dealer said the same thing when I took in for 30K service. I had them replace since it was under warranty. He wanted to show me the plastic cover and fuel line etc but I said it was okay.
I had the same thing as Benzdude. Took it to the dealer and they replaced a portion of the pressurized fuel line that would randomly make my car stick of gas. No problems since. Seems to be a common problem.
this issue seems to be popping up on my C300 as well, to do the work yourself how can you vent the fuel lines out so that no fuel is in them when you remove the line? unplug the High pressure fuel pump fuse ?
Can you tell me the numbers of those Service Bulletins? MB of Walnut Creek wanted $800 from me yesterday to repair "seeping" fuel lines. The car has 48,000 miles, but the warranty expired 6 months ago. I can't believe this isn't subject to a recall.

$800 seems like a lot for replacing the hose and clamps. But, that's dealer pricing for ya.
Here is a pic from underneath that I took before I replaced mine:
They use this flexible hose to connect the engine-side rigid fuel lines to the car body-side rigid fuel lines. As the engine moves back and forth in normal operation, it puts force on these two clamped connections. Not a great design in this orientation and I can certainly see why so many have failed over the last 3 to 4 years!

Did you replace it yourself? Guess part of the expense is having the proper crimping tool. Doesn't look too difficult to get to.
@mikec35 I didn't replace the hose itself as it looked fine for a three year old part. No splits, tears, or swelling.
I pulled the original clamps off by squeezing the clasp on the clamp (painted red on these) with a regular pair of slip-joint pliers while also prying the clasp open with a small flat blade screwdriver. There is also a silicone hood over the original clamp that I cut off as well. Once the old clamp was removed I replaced with new 5/8" stainless screw-type clamps like these:

Good job. I think people are afraid to touch these cars. My car has 115,000 miles and I haven't smelled any fuel. I'll check it while underneath next time. Cut the clamps off and replace with new. A couple of $'s vs. $800 - crazy! I have a CPO with another 1.5 years on the warranty, wonder if this would be a warranty item?
I bought this car from a regular deal non cpo non Mercedes dealer. I opted for the 2k warranty, now I know to never ever do this again cause anything that is wrong with the car as long as you state it within 30 days then it'll be fixed and you never know who is going to be fixing the car with the warranty is it a satellite is it the actual company so many question I know to ask now being only 30. The car smelt like fuel I brought it in to dealer they checked it and said there is nothing wrong, I then looked at these post right here and realised that yes something is wrong and I continued to push the issue and even showed the pictures. They then fixed the fuel line after a lot of back and forth... I obd2 the car but didn't have a icarsoft or anything like that just generic, boy was I in over my head and the dealer seen a sucker from a mile away. no check engine light cause obviously it's a Mercedes not a Toyota. After the hose was fixed the car continued to not only smell like gas, the gas was leaking out and I could see it. They did the clamp 5/8 with screw and braided sealed hose genuine parts but this wasn't the problem. I told them get a fuel pressure test kit and I since bought one. They never did looked at the pictures from here and changed the hose again. Obviously it still was leaking because they never obd2 it nor pressure checked it, they were incompetent and just wanted the easiest fix for the smallest amount of time and I guess that's life. I put a terrible review on google of the dealer and will put a bad review on the repair show soon enough. The problem is this car as a primary high pressure fuel pump and a secondary high pressure fuel pump regulator, the fuel Schrader valve is under the car not on the fuel line. In a short while I've learned so much about this car seeing there are no videos showing how to fix anything, I guess for real people are afraid to touch them and going more for the w204 cause there are plenty of videos there. Well now I'm checking the secondary high pressure fuel regulator and I think this is the culprit, when it gets cold it leaks meaning a seal constricts and pressure is releasing there it could be the pump but that thing is a lot of money and fcpeuro doesn't have it for the w205 but the w204... I do have a good question I used live data and the kPa for the fuel pressure says 12,500 kPa that makes it 1880 psi is that normal for a w205 Mercedes c300? I'm going to do videos on how to change the transmission fluid as well the differential oil as well brakes normal **** that should just be easy to find... Thank you for reading.
So regularly I can smell gas in my car. Took it to dealer and there are two items that need to be fixed :
1. Crankcase breather hose
2. Fuel line repair
Apparently these jobs are SUPER expensive. Total estimate from dealer is $2000 ( $1500 + $500).
Here is where I need help from you all - I have seen on pelicanparts.com that breather hose can be done in 1 hr by a novice DIY person with almost basic tools.
What is your take on that ?
