Suspension Squeak
Finally I just got angry enough to start doing my own research. Since my E400 is a W212 chassis, I started internet research back about 10 years or so, when that platform was first introduced. I found the usual tales of woe about control arm bushings, struts, anti-sway bar bushings, and all that. So what? But THEN, back in the early days, I ran across a post on the other MB board, from a member who went about as crazy with a noise as I had been. He found the cause of his. Would you believe that the noise, that ALL of the dealership mechanics swore was a suspension noise, actually was caused by creaking of the plastic bumpers that the hood rests upon when it closes! Yes, stupid plastic bushings. (The car's unibody flexes more than we think it does, too.)
I bought a $10 tube of silicone grease and set about lubricating every place I could find where metal touches or could rub against plastic or rubber. I did the hood, trunk, doors, etc. Would you believe that my car was now SILENT?!!! Yes, the cause of my noises, which the dealers spent 3 1/2 years trying to find, was just a bunch of dry plastic bumpers and weather strips.
So, maybe try the cheap grease fix and see if it calms your car (and its owner) down like mine did.
Good luck!
