Hi all,
I hope you're going well
I have a c class w205 2019.
As you know the infotainment screen on the c class w205 2019 isn't a touch screen. The touch pad isn't intuitive and doesn't help like the direct touch screen.so I want to find a solution to this issue without dealing with aftermarket devices.
Recently I observed that on the new GLC w206 the infotainment screen is surprisingly a touch screen and with same dimensions as the c class w205 of 2019.
Its true that it's also an MBUX not like the NTG 5.5 on c class.
The most important thing for me is they have the same dimensions 10.25 inch so maybe it's a good idea to upgrade safely!
So my question is related to buy new screen of the Glc W206 from Mercedes and mounting it on the c class. This is to get a touch screen on the c class with original Mercedes parts. And without changing the NTG5.5
Do you think it will be feasible and a plug and play ?
I think it is highly unlikely it will work with the NTG5.5 head unit. It won't have software to support the touch screen. The MBUX is most likely a completely new software platform.
Not plug and play, you will need a new command unit, as well as to retrofit the new touchpad that replaces the command knob.
Most likely need to re-wire things like 360 cam etc if you have one and even replace the amp, etc.
Thanks for the lines of inquiry
It seems clear and feasible on the paper..
To be on the safe side, the GLC w206 2019 pushed me to find a way to retrofit.
I have checked the MBUX and the NTG 5.5 and in my opinion their very similar except the hey Mercedes ( looks like a game for me more than utility) and the touch screen that I'd like to have on my C class because I feel something wrong with it specially when I drive.
So for sure it needs to fix some important points for this project and it will not be an easy safe process and it makes me feel scared sometimes lol
I'll try to ask Merc dealership about this process even if they will be surprised by this lol and I'll keep you informed..
I'm confident that sooner or later we will find the best way to retrofit, I hope..
NGT 5.5 and MBUX are not similar behind the scenes, totally different unit and software. Although it appears to be similar, I do not think it t is "easy".
the 5.5 system won't even have the drivers to run that hardware, nor does it have the IO hardware to support touch commands
maybe if you replaced all the hardware though it might, but there is so much interconnected crap on new cars that you risk creating neverending problems
i've seen a W204 with the NTG5.5 so i'd say its possible but it will be difficult, expensive and you are without any support if something go wrong.
might be better to switch to the lovely CLA or the A sedan
Thank you guys
Yes apparently the costs and risks are evident 😪
I saw the Cla with MBUX it's an NTG 6.0 following the dealership, it's TRUE that the new CLA have a good look even sporty but I prefer the c class 2019 firstly because it's my car😊 and secondly because the updated c class with amg line interior and exterior, burmester , the panoramic sunroof and the 19inch wheels looks for me more muscled than the cla and a class. Add also the rear wheels drive doesn't much in my opinion the front wheels drive.
The only bad thing always on my eyes is the touch screen even I prefer the double screen and the integrated screen on the c class.
But this is it with Mercedes always I said why it haven't this or that😪😪
But I respect all merc owners for their choice 👍
