Fuel Gauge not working

So today as I was getting home I noticed my range dropped all of the sudden to 3 miles. I went to the overpriced gas station and paid for 3 gallons. When I drove off my range dropped to 0. I then filled my gas tank to full and still nothing. I have checked the FUEL SYSTEM CONTROL UNIT fuses and they were both good. Please help!

W205 Fuel Gauge Not Working

Hi All.

I had a similar issue on my C180 W205 2015. Was driving home after filling up half a tank. Stopped at a restaurant and when I jumped back into the car - gauge showed empty and range had dropped to 0.

Knew I had more than enough to make it home so I checked for leaks then left for home.

At home, checked fuses (all good), reset odometer etc and let car sit for a day - nothing had changed and gauge was still showing 0. Filled up an additional 20 litres hoping to reset the system. Nothing.

Fed up, got a booking at my local Merc specialist and took the car in a week after the issue arose. Was told it was either that fuel level sender, or pump control module (part # A0009004007). Mechanic nor MB dealer had defective part in stock - told them to track it down and call when it was available.

This is where it takes a turn. To diagnose the fault, technicians connected to car, read codes then cleared it. Starting up the car after collection - the gauge jumped back to life. All working and has been working past few days so seems to be resolved. Turns out that clearing the fault code reset some section of the system and restored gauge functionality.

Saved myself some serious money and time. I’d recommend trying to read and clear any codes before replacing parts - might just end up working for you as well. Cheers. Tash.
