I recently replaced both of mine. Their pretty cheap so replace both.

thanks so much! I did find that image last night and some basic data such as need a quarter inch driver and reverse e8 etc. was attempting to see if I could do this myself on ramps vs lift/dealer. Surprising nobody has put up pics of DIY right? Thanks again!

Hi.which code number did you get,I have c350e, diagnostic machine says code p0341 crankshaft position sensor,but p0341orginally for camshaft position sensor. Which one did you replace it

the red highlighted circles are camshafts sensors on the 2.0 I4 the crankshaft sensor, only one, is on back of motor. It’s strange to get codes for two different sensors. When my crank was failing, it caused bizarre drivability issues and didn’t throw any codes until it finally went into limp mode and I got all the codes. Car would start bucking and trying to throw me out of it at 3.5k-4.2k/rpm at constant throttle. Felt like an aggressive rev limiter mid-Range. Was wild. Especially with no codes I was panicking my tune was messed up. Did all plugs myself and had dealer do crankshaft sensor for $262 I couldn’t warranty it since I cleared the codes and limp mode when I got stuck 30min away from home. And couldn’t replicate codes for dealer. It took about a week for CEL from first noticing failing sensor. I didn’t have a way to get under car at the time either so stealership won that time.

So what is the P0016 code ? Mines says “Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation - Bank 1 Sensor A. That’s what is popping on my code reader.

I believe that is the camshaft sensor(s). Could be p0016 left and p0017 right etc, so replace both. I don’t know why your reader has the word crankshaft, possibly a non-specific reader for your car, but if one is failing it would be the correlation issue and remember a lot of sensors data work together between components and the ECU.

Correlation faults are usually due to failing cam gears or worn timing components, not just a sensor. Mileage? Always have good oil changes? Any startup rattles or noisy chain drive?

We did have sporadic issues with the crank sensors on the M274 but they would usually die and not run when it happened, as the crank sensor tells the ME if the engine is turning, so when it stops saying anything, the computer stops firing injectors and spark plugs until it sees RPM again.

so weird I had the same issue and ever since I got it fixed my car has been driving very weird. It doesn’t accelerate as fast as it use to and now when I get to 100 miles a hour the car hardly goes much faster. Driving at a 100 for like 5-10 sec just to get to 102. Before I never had this issue at all. I have had several shops check it out and they don’t come up with anything but 1 shop told me it was my knock sensor. Has anyone else had the same issue and what did you do?

had this done. I had went to many shops and even 2 different Mercedes dealers to see what was wrong but they all said everything is good. But 1 shop he used hooked his computer to the car and he says there’s a code for a bad knock sensor.

There is a learn in process for some crank position sensors, I don't recall if the M274 needs to be done. The crank sensor is responsible for cylinder misfire identification and if the PCM does not know the sensor has been changed or moved and now the crank wheel profile it sees is different, it can wreak havoc with the engine management software. Did you tell the dealers what you had replaced?

the crankshaft position sensor is located on the right side of the engine, where the engine meets with the transmission, you will have to access it from under the car, and you will have to remove the downpipe to make it easier to remove / reinstall the sensor

I have heard the CPS can fail intermittently without a error code. In modern Mercedes (e.g. 2015) M274 does a bad crankshaft sensor or loss of input from it prevent starting altogether via the ECU or does it cause the more traditional issue of cranking but not starting or delayed starting.

This is the Cam Shaft position Sensor - Not the crankshaft position sensor
