Brake pad replacement function.

Brake pad replacement function.
Son used function to retract caliper piston but it didn't go back all the way for new pads to fit, pressed again and the piston extended all the way to the point of it being fully depressed? And now it is loose and won't go back in? Parking brake light flashes now

Yeah I did that but it didn't retract all the way. So I tried pressing it again and it went all the way out;
Well got it towed to dealership under warranty

You re-extended them with the calipers off? You probably ruined the caliper.
The parking brake release will unwind it, but you will still have to press the hydraulic piston back in like any other brake job to clear the new pads. If you don't release the EPB first, it won't move at all. Once it's put into pad replacement mode it will let you squeeze the piston back in normally.

Yes I imagined that that would be the case. I found it weird how their was no fail safe in place for that. Maybe it's just me. Like I didn't understand why it was able to go to the point of no return to where it's just wobbling loosely.

I did my rears without any problem. I just lifted the car and used the steering wheel setup and it shows up in the middle screen. Click on service and it opened the rears, then when I was done, I went back into the screen and choose completed and it closed the calipers. Took if for s spin and everything worked properly.

Mine didn't reset all the way for the pads to fit in. Did you do them both at the same time? Maybe I made a mistake doing one at a time.
Well dealership doesn't cover it under warranty. $1300.

Yes, I did both sides at the same time. Working on the left and then on the right. When it service mode it opens both rear pads. You also need to tell the car that you have completed the service so that it will close the calipers but you need to make sure you have replaced both before you tell the car you are done.

1.the clip holding in the pads,
2. The moterized piston.
So like in the video above, you'd have to use the steering wheel to retract the Pistons. And also as a precaution, do both at the same time as stated up above to avoid running into my situation. So two Jack stands or one Jack stand and keep the other side lifted on a healthy Jack.
Edit: after re reading Italianjoes post i now understand that I was supposed to manually push the piston in the rest of the way...?
