MAJOR CONCERN:
Wondering if anyone has had this happen.
As I was driving down the road taking a left hand turn, my passenger side door flung open and almost hit someone. The car did not recognize the door as being open so it was not beeping at me. I stopped, closed the door flush again and locked it. I continued to drive and the car door flung wide open again even after I closed it flush and locked it.
After realizing this is a major safety concern, I tied my door shut with duct tape and seatbelt and drove to the nearest Mercedes Bendz dealer (Syracuse, NY). They said they have never seen anything like this and quote “Mercedes prides themselves in having a special locking mechanism so even in a crash these doors are made not to open”. After inspection, the dealer noted the bearing or something was worn out inside the door.
THIS IS NOT OK!! Even with a worm out mechanism, the door should not fly open while driving.
Hoping Mercedes will take ownership in this flaw. Should this be a recall?? VERY DANGEROUS!
