W205 disconnect battery for 6 months
Hi all, my 13 year old w203 C200k recently died(timing chain, bottom sprocket- uneconomical to repair) and went to MB heaven!
so just swapped to w205 c200SE Executive edition, Sadly i go away in 3 weeks for 6 months as i do every UK winter and on my 203 i just disconnected one of the battery leads(negative i think) went away, came back, hooked it up and she'd start first time
now im hoping it all the same for this car but thought id check with you MB gurus first if there are any tips/hacks i should know about
cheers

If you can, hook up a Ctek charger, instead of disconnecting the battery.
Many of the never cars don't like to be disconnected that long time. There have been stories about modules failing or go into error mode.
The Ctek charger is cheaper than a visit to the dealer

Thanks for reply. I'm sure that you're right but.... Sorry....I have no idea what that is or how I would use it? Do I connect it to my battery for 6 months? Or use it to charge my battery when I return? Please explain more or send me a good link please. Very many thanks

You connect it to the battery, all 6 month, and it will look after your battery, keep it charged, and deliver standby power to your car.
Here is a link:

You might be able to find it cheaper, if you look for it, but the model # is important.
Have a nice vacation, where ever you are going.

Here's a link to the manufacturers website where you can find more complete information on how a battery maintainer operates. I use one on my Porsche that's driven infrequently. You could also check battery manufacturer sites to learn about the effects long periods of battery inactivity.I agree with the other post that it's probably best to keep the battery connected to the cars computers lest gremlins be introduced.

I've heard great things about the CTEK battery conditioner, and definitely is the best solution here.
There is also the Standy mode function you can use to prevent discharging your battery completely due to all the electronics consuming power. This should work for a period of 4-8 weeks I would presume. For anything longer than that, the battery conditioner might be the way to go.
