Black Panel Above Windshield Oxidizing?

Hey Guys,

The top black panel between my moon / panoramic roof and windshield appears to be oxidizing. What are you guys doing to fix that or resolve it?
It looks like a black glass piece except it isn't glass.

That panel is glass that is glued onto the frame. I had mine replaced under warranty. I assume over time it will fade again. I will just get it wrapped next time.

I have the same issue. I was right outside of warranty when it was severely noticeable. MBUSA was willing to do a goodwill claim but they were going to only cover 20%. Was still quoted my part to be around $1300. Wasn’t worth it for me so I’ll be wrapping it as well.

Oh wow, 1300 for that and that is just your part? Yeah, looks like some wrap is in my future.

I am just outside of Warranty (this August was the last). Oh well.

Yeah it looks terrible. I’m really surprised there not standing behind their vehicles more. The build quality has been really subpar on the earlier w205’s

A gaggle of MB's
Any competent body shop can strip it and respray - no "biggie" like $200.. it's breakdown of the gloss/UV coating

Groovy. That sounds even better than wrapping it.

Mine looks like that as well. Pretty disappointed that they wouldn’t cover since I was only a month out of the original warranty, although I do have CPO extended. My old 2006 W203 didn’t even have peeling issues like that even in the 10 years I owned it.

I'm surprised at the quality of parts being used by Mercedes in these $40k+/$50k+ cars. Does anyone know if it's the same panel being used both pre-FL and FL? Also what causes the breakdown of the coating? Is it just exposure to UV and/or road debris?

I was planning to keep my 2019 C for at least for 6-7 years and I'm now worried what shape the exterior will be at that time.

What do they spray it with? Has anyone actually had this done?

Bumping this to see if anyone has gotten it repainted? I'm assuming that's all that needs to get done

I tried a local place and they wouldn't touch it. Parts list claims its glass, which it isn't, so they didn't want to mess with it. I'll try another, shadier place next time.

I have the same problem.. MB Collision center said to bring it by to see if MB will cover it even with a US Class Action that completed with MB covering the cost of repair or repaying clients that had problems with their paints, cover cars from 2011-2022. For here in Canada, it looks like the Class Action has not reached but if it does, anyone who paid it can use the same US Class Action as the Canadian Law allows for US law to be used an Canadian Class Act for the same issue, especially being the many MB cars was built and painted in Alabama USA.

I think that if MB does not cover such a thing, they should since it's clearly a manufacture painting issue related to the curing of the clearcoat on this part of the car. I have a 2012 Benz and never had this problem but mind you the 2012 Benz has a full glass roof, whereas the 2015 Benz has this paint roof piece.

I will take my car there next week to see what MB states and update accordingly the forum.
