Angry 2015 C300 engine

I have a 2015 C300 AMG. I it has less than 50k miles. My engine needs to be replaced! My 5 year warranty is up. Come to find out there has been multiple issues with cylinder 1 in this model. I’ve seen there has been wrist pin issues and cracked pistons in cylinder 1. I don’t understand why there wasn’t a recall. My vehicle’s issue happened in cylinder 1 as well. I would think that a Mercedes engine would be good for 50k miles. The dealership said it would cost $18k to fix. MBUSA offered me $2k towards the repairs or purchase of a new vehicle. Ridiculous! I just wanted my vehicle repaired. It’s been almost 3 months without my vehicle. Looking like I’m going to have to find a product liability attorney. I was already contacted by a law firm for a class action lawsuit over the gas smell, caused by high pressure fuel line leakage. I also have the mildew smell in the summertime when using my AC. This seems to be a very problematic vehicle, to say the least!

C300 wrist pin issue

I sued my local MB dealer in small claims court and won. I brought the car in for service for 4 years and constantly complained of the banging noise but they never checked it for the most obvious problem, which is the wrist pin issue. There was a technical bulletin issued that clearly laid out the problem, the cause and the remedy. It is an expensive fix and takes a lot of mechanic hours. They absolutely know which cars are affected by looking at the engine numbers and build date. My engine failed at 68,000 miles. It was out of warranty and MB offered $2,000 assistance. The quote to fix was $14,000. My local dealer kept trying to tell me that I didn’t have a cracked piston and my engine failed because I used bad gas. He kept insisting that I had a hole in the piston and not a crack. I left the dealership, bought a used engine for $4K and paid a different mechanic $5K to put it in. The mechanic tore down the engine and confirmed that piston #1 had a big crack in it. I sued for $9K and won. The max you can get in small claims court is $10,000 in California.

Good for you! This might be an option others dealing with this issue should consider. Money always has a way of talking. If these lawsuits start costing MB enough, that'll get their attention. You might want to also open a complaint with NHTSA and forward them a copy of your lawsuit documentation. Maybe that might help them finally do something about this.

I have the same issue on my 2015 C300, with only 49,000 miles, car is out of warranty of course. MB dealer offered to install refurbished engine for 8K with 4 yr/50,000 warranty. I already filed a report with NHTSA. I’d be willing to go the same route as “epaten” as I really feel like MB should stand by their product since it’s obviously a manufacturing issue.

Did you look up the manufacture date and engine number? Which dealership are you going to?

I think it might be beneficial to move this discussion to the W205 section of this forum. There are numerous reports of this same problem in that section of the forum.

I did not look up the manufacture date or engine number. With the number of complaints regarding this same issue on cars from multiple years, It seems like the was ongoing beyond the initial early manufacturing dates that were originally thought to be affected. I am dealing with MB Marin, formerly RAB Motors, now owned by Swickard Auto Group.

In Australia Small Claims against vehicle manufacture sand dealership was increased from 10K to 100k (in the last 12-18 months from memory).
