This is a great question. Sorry, but I have not had the chance to replace my battery yet to tell you. It would not surprise me if you did have to "register the battery" though with this start/stop stuff we have and well it's a modern Mercedes-Benz.
Perfect example of this: A 2008 E93 BMW 335i project car that I'm working on needs the whole "registering a battery" process done via a K+DCAN Cable & INPA software. Our batteries don't seem as big in comparison:

Seriously though, on the W205 there is no battery reset of any kind needed. Installed a new AutoCraft H6-AGM in my 2016 last summer and it's been just fine.

Actually there is a reset that needs to be done in the Front SAM. I do it all the time when replacing batteries. Don't know if any aftermarket scanners can perform the reset, as I always use latest Xentry software.

Care to share what that reset is, because I've owned Mercedes-Benz cars continuously for over 30 years and have never experienced a battery counter or reset of any kind and have gone through plenty of batteries, so I'm very curious about this.

Really, I see you are using your stock reply again. Everyone knows that you can take a car to the dealer, that is absolutely obvious, the whole point of this forum is to avoid taking it to a dealer.

Incorrect, the "whole point" of the forum is not, to not take it to the dealer. It is to share a passion for the brand whcih includes threads on how to fix certain things as well as vehicle acquisition, mods, performance and many other topics. Perhaps you meant the point of this" thread?" Anyway, sometimes certain repairs require dealer intervention. Cheers.

Everyone knows you can take it to the dealer, it goes without saying, to offer that as as resolution to every issue is somewhat annoying, please stop these patronising replies, you are helping no one.

Are you guys talking about my response?? I never said to take it to the dealer, in the opposite, I encourage to take it to an independent shop as long as they are equipped with the right tools. I myself own a full blown shop specializing on Mercedes Benz vehicles and BMW's and have all the proper equipment to service, program and code these vehicles. Mercedes started using the battery registration (battery replacement reset) process in all the new cars...... They can control the charging voltage of the alternator as needed depending if you are cruising, decelerating or accelerating.

It's not you. It's me, they're all over me for over-recommending dealer visits. Cheers.

this. Battery needs to be registered to the front Sam. its in the repair instructions on these newer models.

i looked into the foxwell and icarsoft scanner but neither supported the latest chassis software, I returned the foxwell I purchased and had the dealer do it. They actually replaced my battery under new car warranty anyways.

I just did a new battery install on a 2016 C300 W205. Here are the screen shots of the battery replacement in Xentry.

Are you sure you need a new starter battery and not an auxiliary battery? The "stop vehicle, shift to P, leave engine running" message often goes away after replacing the auxiliary battery.

It's not MB specific but this guy explains why and how to register a new battery.

By newer models and the latest chassis software, you mean 2018+ models?

The screenshots I posted are from a 2016 C300 with the message "stop vehicle, shift to P, leave engine running". When there is an issue with the Auxiliary battery, it will show "Auxiliary battery" message.

Not necessarily. If you google the topic, you’ll find many who replaced the battery only to have that warning message come back on again and turns out it was indeed the auxiliary battery that needed to be replaced.

My Xentry does not give the option to reset battery. Could it be somewhere else? W222
