looks good! i have this similar C63 brake setup for nearly 2 years.... brakes are fantastic!

one thing to note is to have the rotor hat drilled with the additional hole to use the locking screw..... you can see the existing hole for the C63 rotors do not align with the hole on the hub.

helps to keep the rotors in place and minimize judder.

Are the rears a direct bolt up or did you have to modify something or have custom brackets?

Coding issues

Hello!!

I have purchased a genuine c63 brake kit when plugging the rear calipers in its throwing fault codes stopping me from recalibrating the rears.. it's saying rear Park brake status unknown...followed these steps exactly.
this is my second set of calipers to try this on the first ones did the same but we're from an Sl63

When I plug the old calipers in all codes disappear and it works fine

Any ideas?

Are you using the C63 Park Brake Wiring Harnesses to connect the calipers' e-brake to the car? If not, this is most likely your issue as these harnesses/pigtails are required to connect a non-C63 electrical system to the C63 rear caliper's e-brake.

You'll need MB part A2055400700 (LH) & MB part A2055400800 (RH)

Example pic (A2055400700):

Hat tip to @dagger22 for providing this information!

Okay, cool. If the harnesses are used and If you have an ohmmeter, I would check the continuity of the harnesses and make sure the electrical connection contacts are clean and aligned. If all good, you may have a bad parking brake actuator(s). I don't know how to test them, maybe someone else here does?

I hope you find the issue quickly so you can enjoy your awesome new brakes! I'll be looking forward to hearing what ends up being the issue. I'll be doing this same conversion in the near future (already have the calipers/actuators/harnesses).

Hello Keith,

Thanks for the reply, I have all new wiring harness and this is the second set of brakes I've tried this with and it's the same fault codes .. I can say it's not the actuators. Thank you so much for your help though.. my mechanic thinks it could be because I need the right abs pumps for the brakes

Okay, great, at least the actuators are eliminated as a cause. I'm thinking like you, this is weird because others have done this swap on C300's without issue (as far as we know).

I'm wondering... did you have your battery disconnected when you did the swap? Maybe it should be? I don't know, just trying to think of things. Maybe there's a possibility that the ECU cannot re-learn new actuators when they are hot-swapped? It may be worth a shot to have the battery disconnected for a bit with the new calipers plugged in, then re-connect the battery and see if the ECM recognizes them then? Just shooting in the dark.

Good luck man! I hope you find this gremlin soon!

I haven't tried that yet but I'll look Into that...i am almost certain all disconnecting the battery does is clear the codes which the computer can do. Is it possible the rears have a hall sensor as the offset is different the caliper makes contact with the disc causing the wheel to seize which then throws codes shutting the car down to limp mode for safety reasons... As people have had to apply spacers on the rear calipers to make sure the caliper aligns with the disc correctly?

What I was thinking was more as; have the original brakes on the car while it has been/was running with no codes. Disconnect the battery. Swap to the new brakes. Re-connect the battery. As I said, I don't know if this has any effect, but I know from the computer/PC world there are some computer-controlled devices that cannot be hot-swapped (changed with live power supplied), as the MAC/ID entry for the original device remains intact and the new device is not recognized or updated. Just a shot in the dark because I have no idea what your problem actually is.

Most sensors require wires, so if there are any additional sensors you should see wires going to them. ( I don't think so)

The rear rotor hubs from a C63 are thicker and have a greater offset than C300 rear rotor hubs so the C63 rear caliper will need to be shimmed to center the caliper/pads with the rotor.

I hope you can find the root of the issue! Sorry I don't have the solution for you man. I'm really curious to find out what it is!

Think I've found the problem!

Ok so after going through the steps and taking it to Benz I think I have figured it out.

As I'm attempting to fit the Sl63 rear brakes the pads are supposed to have a nipple on the back of the pad which locks into the Ebrake piston when recalibrating... The pads that came with the kit do not have the nipple on them so when I'm trying to re-teach the handbrake the piston just keeps spinning and times out.. hence the error message. The brakes at the moment work perfectly and the Ebrake can be engaged and disengaged when putting my foot on the pedal.

I tried to re-teach the Ebrake whilst pressing down on the pedal but then it throws me out as this is a safety precaution through Benz. I have ordered the correct pads and I am waiting for them to come. So I will update you all when they arrive.
The car is drivable at the moment as long as I disengage the park brake when I start the car it's just annoying as I have to do this every time I turn the car on, I apply my foot on the brake, pull the handbrake and then the red flashing parking brake warning light disappears, The amber park brake stays on all the time but when I stop the car and turn it off the Ebrake does engage. If this happens to anyone DO NOT drive the car with the red parking brake warning light flashing as it can activate the parking brake at any time! Very very dangerous!

I fixed the offset of the rotors by applying 2mm spacers on the calipers to bring the rear calipers out by 2mm. Giving it the perfect amount of clearance needed to stop the caliper from rubbing against the rotor.

Here's my progress so far. I will let you all know what happens when the pads arrive. You can still enter service mode by turning the car on to the second ignition position, pull the handbrake whilst foot on the pedal than go to ignition 1 and enter service mode.

Thanks for the update man! I've been wondering how it's been going for you. Wow, that's a bit nobody would have guessed, I'm sure, lol. I wonder how anyone could make W205 C63 pads that DON'T have that nipple formed into them... wow. Do you think you may have received incorrect pads not made for a W205 C63?

Update

Yeah I crazy I know right! Well here's the thing so I purchased the Sl63 brakes used, they came off a wrecked car.. so the person previously had those pads in... Why? I have no idea Lol.

As for the C63 brakes I don't know whether the rear brakes in the C63 also require a "nipple" on the pad for EPB... Maybe someone could shed some light into this? I don't know whether or not the mechanic who attempted the brakes originally just saw the second batch and went hmm they're the same as the SL63 rears its won't work... Without looking into it further as from the outside the rears look identical.

I received a phone call yesterday from the shop in which they confirmed these pads I ordered have a Grove/nipple. Which is great news and is beginning to line up... Fitting them on Saturday so hopefully happy days!!

Cool! Glad to hear you are closer to getting this resolved! Man, that's really frustrating that it seems like you got some kind of orphan pads, lol.

Fingers crossed for you dude!

Not the pads

Well what a journey this is being!

Ok after viewing the pads for myself it seems that the shop was incorrect about the nipple as well as Mercedes saying I currently have the wrong pads. After removing my old pads and comparing they they're the exact same as the new pads so I didn't bother fitting them! The piston when calibrating to be the car still spins and can not locate stopping on the pad... I don't know why!

After hooking up my car to xentry I can clear all faults but one...I have a picture below..

Now my other theory is that I have the wrong Harness as my handbrake currently does everything in reverse...

I have purchased the Sl63 harness to see if that makes a difference as it's not a two in one harness like the c63 it's two seperate harnesses... Maybe it's a frequency problem?

I'm kinda getting abit annoyed now at this whole situation as no one knows the answer hahha. Do I think you can have a direct plug and play with C63 brakes NO...if so why is this so hard? I'm beginning to doubt people have done thus successfully without the proper knowledge of recoding their cars..

If you still have access to xentry, you can look into the individual tabs to see the actual values (and see which is off the range), you can perform tests and adaptation to see if it can resolve the issue.

my C63s brakes set (front and rear) was recently installed into my friend's newer C200 with the 1.5 hybrid M264 engine, with no issues.

Still no luck

Ok well I hired a well known Mercedes coding expert and it's so something cannot be coded...

When looking at the Ebrake actuators voltage on xentry it states a 0 voltage reading... Does anyone know why?

I have ordered the Sl63 rear harnesses but I believe the plug in where connecting to the car are horizontal instead of vertical (c63 harness)

I have attached a photo below

If anyone can confirm this that would be great

Wow dude, sorry to hear you are still having troubles! On the face of it, It seems like you have failed actuator(s). Has anyone been able to test your actuators and confirm they are good?

Still wishing you luck!

Yeah it sucks hahhah. Well here's the thing when it's plugged up it's showing 0 voltage through the actuators but when I apply the handbrake manually the current running through is showing what is to be expected... So I would assume the actuators are working..but I could be wrong... Any ideas?

Yeah, if they work in a different mode I assume they are good? I really don't know dude. Obviously something is amiss, I wish I had the answer.

Hi, I see you installed in 18 inch rims but dont know if they are "special" 18 inch wheels.

Thanks.

Thanks.
I added spacers back when i used that set of original rims. thereafter i switched to custom wheels.

BIG brake kit fixed!!!!

Hello guy's!!

So as you may know I installed Sl63 AMG brakes onto my car and the rear park brake did not work and came up with an error amber P symbol. So although the C63 and Sl63 brakes look the exact same they're not! The rear motors in the Sl63 do not communicate with the C63 harness although they clip straight in! I ordered the C63 rear brake motors and they fitted straight onto the Sl63 calipers and when I logged into Xentry and calibrated the handbrake boom the code cleared!!!
Finally after 2 years of trying to program the brakes etc the problem is solved!!
