Smile Keep 2017 or Lease 2020 C300?

Like the Gerry Rafferty song goes..."im stuck in the middle..."

We have a 2017 C300 with 51K miles on it which will become our secondary car.

Needs tires and brakes soon = 2K.

Buyout is 28K with sales tax = 30K.

Got a good deal on a 2020 demo w 5K miles for only 100.00 more a month with a $2500K down payment.

All of our other MBs we kept to 290K (190E, ML 350, Wagon, etc).

Any steer from high mileage C300 owners on buy vs lease would be welcome!

30K seems a bit high but if you really like the car try and re-negotiate a price. As for longer term reliability, I don't have too much confidence in MB's newer offerings anymore. Even the higher line cars. It seems that there is very little correlation between miles and years anymore. Some owners report no issues and others report major out of warranty issues with still low miles on all product levels after 5 years of ownership. So much going on in these cars. If you purchase the 2017 make sure to get the best warranty coverage. Also perhaps a reputable non-dealer repair shop.

Should you go with the newer lease, you will find yourself in the same predicament later unless the car is a flop. However lower maintenance costs. New C is out in 2021 as a 2022 model. I suspect there will be a host of gremlins in year one and two models, so if you want a new C, a 20 or 21 is the way to go and perhaps buy it to keep instead of lease.

If you think they need replacement soon, I would check with your local tech if the brakes and tires are within min spec to turn in for end of lease. That extra $2k spending on lease return could help you decide to keep or spend it on something you don't own.

Thanks for the tip

Stockbmw...the brakes and tires are in need of replacement shortly...if I turn in the car that's a savings and they give me a $500 wear credit

Places...would agree about the hit or miss on later model reliability. The older MB tends to age well...the later models seem to be a question mark. I should as you say look at an extended warranty as well

Once I got all issues and my sh*t 2015 engine block replaced it’s been running flawlessly the last couple years. I’m still on the original brakes at 53k miles and they check out fine, they’re the upgraded Sport ones so maybe they last longer? There’s a lot more tech in modern cars and that’s what tends to go wrong, even the most reliable brands have that issue(family has lexus and it’s had it’s share of problems as well) Initially I was pretty disappointed in MB but after the warranty work has been done and now expired, I’m pretty confident its going to go for a while. Yeah there’s probably going to be SOMETHING but I doubt it’ll be major, and I’ll probably be rid of it before it gets to that point.

yes I found the brakes on this car seem to last better than older MBs

even the Conti tires last which was a complete surprise to me

We decided to keep the car but we need to get an extended warranty
