Winter tires for staggered tire sizes; a PSA
My '17 4Matic Cab OEM tires were 225/40R19 F and 245/35R19 R. After a long search, I found that virtually no tire outlet sells a serious winter tire model in both sizes. Hope I save someone with the same OEMs the futility of searching thru tires sites to learn this. All the available candidates are "winter performance tires"; an oxymoron in my view. The marketing minds who came up with that idea never had to deal with 5 miles of black ice with the added thrill of round-abouts as I did last Weds. Using the 3% oversize "rule" for the front tires, I settled on Conti VikingPro's 235/40R19 F and 255/40R19 R. About the same F/R OD difference as the OEMs. Few but very good reviews, but I'll see how they do in the "get me home" conditions that I buy winter tires for.
