2020 C300 Instrument Cluster Customization

Hey guys - I recently upgraded my 2017 to a 2020 C300 and have a question about instrument cluster customization. I watched a tutorial on YouTube which shows a 2020 C300 (without the new MB instrument cluster) able to customize to sport and progressive mode. However in my instrument cluster, the “design” option is missing. Do you know if the “Design” option is non standard? Or is a software upgrade going to fix this?
What I’m referring to starts around 8:10 in this video.
Many thanks.
Daniel

As long as you have the full digital dash, it should be there. You can access it through the main infotainment screen, or also by going to the home menu on the digital gauges and scrolling all the way to the right until you get to “designs” menu. If it’s not there you definitely have an issue.

that’s the confusing thing, it’s all there EXCEPT for “designs”
is it possible that the designs feature is an add on option? Or is it a software upgrade of some sort that adds it?

I think you might have a software glitch, I have a 2020 with the digital dash, and being able to switch between designs comes with the digital dash option, there isn’t any add on. Have the dealer check it out, that’s very weird.

Just a hunch, but does your car perhaps not have the Multimedia package? There've been a few threads where people were missing features and they all tracked down to the lack of the Multimedia package so far. W/o it you don't have the COMAND system, so a number of features won't be there. Some are obvious due to the lack of built-in navigation, but others seem to be not very obvious why they are missing unless you have the full COMAND system.

I don’t have the multimedia package, nor do I have the premium package.

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure, but I thought I'd bring it up as past discussions have uncovered that w/o the Multimedia package certain features are missing. Even some of the extra packages have limited functionality if the Multimedia package is missing. Specifically the Driver Assist package is much more basic w/o the Multimedia package, because the more advanced features such as extended handsfree driving, automatic lane changing etc. require access to the map data to determine the road and road features that one is currently driving on and what's up ahead such as intersections, exits etc. Sounds like in OP's case it might be a coding error from the factory.

Thanks. I looked at the details and don’t see the multimedia package added in the options printed on the car’s sticker. So that maybe it?

Does anyone know contact info for someone at M-B directly that maybe able to answer this question? I doubt the dealers will know this level of detail?

Well, wait a minute. Your car doesn't have the 12.3" Digital Instrument Cluster, either. You can't change the design layouts with the standard analog instrument cluster. You need option 464 for that and the car in the video you posted has the digital instrument cluster.

I looked at the video again it looked exactly like mine. But maybe it looks the same but the sixes are different?

Get the Mercedes Me app on your phone and that will give you the option to change displays through your phone.

Not sure. Maybe you can post a picture of your instrument cluster. But the one you need to have is just a screen. On the AMG models it even has a layout where the speedometer gets removed and the rev counter is moved to the center. It's a bit fuzzy, but here's a picture of mine in my C63. You can see that the whole thing is just a single display.

You basically have to contact customer support. If your car has indeed the digital instrument cluster, even though it doesn't have it according to the sticker, then I have a strong suspicion that your car is one of the recent specimens that have left the factory with peculiar configurations. According to a specialist at MB, due to the COVID supply chain disruptions they are experiencing part shortages and instead of delaying orders they are building the cars with what they can get. They are hoping to get an update from MB Germany on what to do with these cars to make them fully functional. For example somebody else recently took delivery of their 2020 C43 and it has the AMG Drive Unit controls on the steering wheel. The controls you can see in the lower part of my steering wheel above, but in his case they are not actually hooked up and don't do anything. The displays in them don't light up. In his case he did actually spec the car with the option, but his window sticker doesn't list it and as said in his actual car they are not hooked up. So his car got built with the correct steering wheel, but something else is missing to actually make it work.

Yeah I agree with the others, according to the build sheet you don’t have the digital display. Post a picture of it for some clarification. I also agree with the person above that your car might just be built with whatever they had giving you a digital display that acts like the standard analog one (because the car according to the build sheet, should have the analog gauges), if that makes sense.

Maybe you can decode your vin or post it so I can, to really see if the car indeed was built with a digital display when it was supposed to be built with the analog one.
