Spilled perfume ? Need to remove armrest storage bottom fabric
Hey guys
I just bought a 2017 c300 and unfortunately I didn’t notice it during test drive but there’s persistent smell from the armrest storage area.
when I touch the black fabric at the bottom, the fabric is almost oily. I don’t know what happened in there. Smells like perfume or air freshener but the smell is quite strong.
I’ve been trying to get the smell off. Tried everything, vinegar, baking sodar, commercial cleaning sprays etc. Nothing seems to work.
I’ve came to the conclusion that the only way I can remove the smell is to remove the black piece of fabric that covers the bottom of the storage box, then wash it, and put it back.
It comes off left and right but the back part is really attached and I can’t just yank it off.
Is there any instructions on how to remove this.
when I search, I get a lot of people removing the Center console trim, but not for the armrest and storage box
Thank you

I'm not sure if you can remove just the carpet from the glove box but you can remove the whole lot and replace it with a new/used one?
I found one over the pond for quite cheap, if you wanted a new one it's fairly more expensive, around $450 just for the frame on its own.

Edit:
on how to remove the glove box, quite simple really.

Back in the day I used to do a lot of Upland Bird Hunting, Trapping and was a full time Taxidermist. There is a product called "Skunk Out" that INSTANTLY eliminates the spray of a skunk! It's made for use on dogs that poke their cold wet noses on the business end of a skunk. I bought it from Pet Supplies Plus and just did a Google search and it's also available online. If you or your dog has ever been sprayed then you already know how impossible it is to get rid of that odor . This stuff works INSTANTLY with NO lingering odors or cover up scent, which I find nothing short of incredible. If that doesn't work I don't know what will.

Hey guys thank you so much for your suggestions
My problem is not glove box but the center armrest, inside. The black lining
I used multiple deodorant and chemicals. But the problem is the black fabric seems to be completely soaked/coated in oily smelly stuff. So it really cannot be helped by rubbing with wet cloth or any spray. I need to remove it and hand wash it in hot soapy water

Hey. To my surprise, all I had to do was yank the black fabric liner pretty hard and it just came off. lol.
I washed it in hot water with soap, and vinegar, and even in alcohol, and the smell is still there.
at this point I am thinking of just buying black felt and creating a fabric liner myself
thank you everyone for the suggestions
