New Battery

Is it normal to replace your battery for a 2017 c300 that has 60,000 miles on it? I started getting a error message with a pic of the battery?

Depending on where you live a 4 year old battery might be due a replacement, yes.

If you haven't driven the car recently because of covid, battery might just need a battery charger maintainer. These days, I charge up my battery once a month because of lack of driving. If you don't drive for a week, I would charge it on weekly basis.

Absolutely agree, if it was on a maintainer then it could possibly last a bit longer but I just saw that OP lives in California so 4 years would be about right for a very decent battery as per https://www.aaa.com/autorepair/artic...batteries-last
I would just replace the battery, I replaced mine with Varta F21 which I believe is the equivalent to OEM or at least as good as from what I can remember when I was researching it.
A battery that doesn't hold its charge (voltage) can cause really weird problems on our cars so it's simply not worth it not replacing it.

Battery on my 2017 gave up around 40,000 miles. Replaced with OEM and its been good since. Last I heard in January, there was a battery shortage at dealers.

I'm also getting this message since last week on my 2016. I haven't been driving my car regularly due to covid, and after driving for a long time, the message goes away until the next day. Given that my battery is the original one since 2016, I'm planning to replace it soon.

I got the same message over and over again. I charged the battery but this message came back again. Until one day the battery died. Its a 2015 OEM battery so I guess its about time to replace it. I got a Varta as I remember the dealer service guy telling that OEM MB batteries are Varta. No complaints about my Varta these stop vehicles messages totally disappeared.

I was getting that warning on my 2016 last year.
On plus side the eco start/stop stopped.
I had the battery replaced at the dealer last July for $260.

Hhhh one plus side indeed. This start stop system is so annoying really.

A gaggle of MB's
I am AMAZED at the # of responses - and frankly a LOT of unclear information.

1. That message comes up "most of the time" based on low voltage of the "2nd battery" - which is a storage capacitor actually.

2. A competent MB shop would "stress test" the main battery 1st - then test that storage capacitor

I just recently went through this same scenario. I have 147,000 miles on my 2016. I started getting the "stop vehicle, leave engine running message." I drove it for weeks with the message, letting it idle multiple times and it never charged up from idling. I put it on a charger and the message went away for a short period then came back. I drive a lot, but have recently slowed down a lot due to travel restrictions and a total knee replacement in February. One thing I didn't realize until I started reading battery threads, my eco start/stop had quit working.

I replaced the battery with one from Batteries Plus for $180, the message went away and after a couple of trips the eco start/stop started working.

Just an FYI, like I mentioned, I drove the car a lot with the message on. Idling never caused the message to go away. I drove it on a 4 hour round trip and the message went away for a couple of weeks. It also went away for a period of time after charging.

If you don't replace it you are just putting off the inevitable, these cars have a very high current demand on the battery and components that don't get full power start to act up, like the stop/start function.

147k miles is a lot! Or the age of the battery matters more than mileage on it?
I just got my original battery with 59k miles (95k km) on my 2014 model replaced with an OEM Varta one after having ignored the warning messages for 2 years and driven for more than 16k miles since the warning first popped up. This car hasn't been driven much but in the last couple of month I had to call roadside assistance three times to jump start it, so it was about time.

I think a combination of age, run time and climate all play a factor in the battery’s life cycle. I’m getting ready to hit 150,000 miles next week. Time to make a few repairs and do some tune up items.
