It's pretty common. Mostly with the "Boy Racers' with the lower powered cars to try and disguise the fact that it is the low powered version. Me ? mines a C200 2ltre so it is one of the lower powered ones but that is not the reason I did it., I'm a bit past being a 'Boy Racer', I just like the cleaner look.

I always order my cars without (and no front license plate) because I like a clean look. I'm probably having the chrome strip wrapped black soon to further the clean look since my car has the night package and all the chrome is blacked out except the trunk.

Nice. How about the exhaust tips. I thought they come black on a night package.

The main points people talk about removing or keeping badges
A lower tier car wants to seem higher tier to the people that do not know the car brand or model differences by aesthetics (Remove badge)
A higher tier car wants to remain on the on the down low for thieves, racing, cops, wealth discrimination (remove badge)
A higher tier car wants to be seen as the highest tier, wants to be known as higher tier to those that can’t distinguish the car without the badge which is most people (Keep badge)
A higher or lower tier car likes the cosmetics of a badge or of no badge. (Keeps or removes badge)
as mentioned, heat, a strong plastic line and some adhesive remover will do the trick. Read the label of the adhesive remover and make sure it does not remove paint.

I never knew debadging was a thing until I joined the BMW forum. Just like I never knew cutting the nibs off tires was a thing.

It's just a cheap piece of plastic stuck on a big hunk of metal rolling down the road. Other than the owner, 99% of the people could care less what badge it has. Todays pickup trucks sell for $60k, $70k and $80K plus and their badges are never discussed. Just my opinion....I would have purchased my BMW and Mercedes even if it had Chevy bowtie stuck on the hood.
